That survey was interesting. Although I've never heard of a website being taken down due to pressure from the entertainment industry. Has anyone else heard of this?

I do know that certain authors prohibit fanfics being written with their characters, i.e., Anne McCaffrey for one. I believe Anne Rice is another author who doesn't care for fanfiction.

You're right about Anne Rice - I'm told there's a notice on her website asking people not to write fanfics based on her characters.

As for websites being taken down, the closest to this that I've come across was the banning of NC-17 fics on fanfiction.net a few months back. That was in response to pressure from somewhere, but I don't know where from. The site itself is still up and appears to be functioning just as well (if not better) without these fics.
