So I was watching a clip of XY040 (Day Three Blockbusters!) on Cartoon Network's website, and noticed something. Serena calls a Pokémon Showcase a "Pokétacular". I assumed this was just a case of the dub being inconsistent that I didn't notice on my first watch, but I rewatched the full episode and no, she calls it a Pokémon Showcase. Also, the "To Be Continued" banner was different. Was the former an early version of the dub? Is it a United States vs. rest of the English-speaking world difference? If so, does this change carry over to more recent episodes? I'm very intrigued about this.

That's a possibility. Now that I read this thread, I have to admit that I would've liked "Pokétacular" better than "Pokémon Showcase."

I bet someone agreed with you; that's why they supposedly changed it.

The change would have been in the other direction - a late change to stop using Pokétacular.

Those differences in the dub come about as a result of the way the dubs based on the English dub are handled. There's a company (SDI Media) that takes the US dub and prepares the foreign language dubs - they do things like put a black bar over the 'To Be Continued' text so that they can translate that, in some languages they translate the credits, and for some dubs, they filter the image to minimise bright flashes. It's the last one that I'm fairly sure is the justification for the fact they also do a 'dub' of the English version, with all those changes.

With some of those dubs sometimes even airing before Cartoon Network in the US show a particular episode - they would have to get a fully dubbed source episode to work from with enough time to spare to complete the work in translating it. So if a change to the script is made late, or they go back to fix an error - it can occasionally not be reflected in the other version of the English dub.

For the Poketacular, it might be possible that the voice actress simply ad-libbed. I know dubs sometimes do that (Harley's dialogue, Sailor Moon).
