Anabel - Gender Confusion Debate.

Well, I have just figured out that there is confusing facts between the anime, the game (Emerald in this case), and the Game. In the Magna, the character was depicted as a male and well recently, the Anime, a female.

Now, this is getting me very confused, did it made you get confused?

What do you think, is Anabel female or male?
 
I always thought she was female, from her name to her looks. I didn't even know she was a male in the manga...shudder.
 
No idea. IT sure doesn't look very much like a girl, but it doesn't look too much like a guy either.

And I'll just say that the name "Anabel" is horribly stupid. How can one possibly think it's a wise move to give a character who has the official gender of "uncertain" a name like that? Gah.
 
"Uncertain?" Her Japanese name is Lila (or Rira, or Leela, or however you want to romanize it), which is most certainly a girl's name.
 
Anabel's definitely female. Although I think I can easily see why this problem came up.

What was one of the main reasons why Hun couldn't be passed off as a female very well in the eyes of those who knew the character was a male? The flat chest. Hun had no boobs. And now, neither does Anabel, not even the slight curve given to small-breasted girls.

However, I also must say the figure doesn't make me think Anabel's a boy. Just based on her age, Anabel could easily still not have gone through the physical changes of puberty yet. Just because May had some big developments very early in her life doesn't mean all the young girls of the Pokémon world will.

Hun still has no excuse, though.
 
Anabel is male in the manga, they refer to her as "he" all the time. The manga is closer to the games than the animé, so I'm gonna say Male.

It's the eyelashes.It's why I was 95% sure that Anabel was a girl,since Sugimori's female designs always have long feminine eyelashes.But he could've also gone for some uber bishounen character.


Bashou,even though he is bishounen,was clearly a man since he didn't have long eye lashes and had a deep ass voice.Which makes me wonder if the team that dubbed LoT even watched the japanese version.

I'm pretty sure she's a female in the games, too. After all, her name is still Lila/Anabel whether we're talking about the games or the anime or the manga.

Does anyone have scans of the manga so we can see all these supposed masculine third person pronouns in use?
 
Lila used "boku" to refer to herself all the time in the anime, yet, she´s a girl. ( like harley uses "atashi" if I´m correct, which doesn´t make him a girl)

If she does this in the manga as well, this could be the reason for a translation error.

There wouldn´t be a point in changing the gender of a character
 
I don't believe in the Magnas, and yes, the Game also has Anabel as female as the name suggests, ahem, Salon Maiden Anabel.

So, in conclusion, Anabel is Female... =p
 
Oh yeah, forgot about the Maiden part.

Yep, she's female, end of discussion. I'd appreciate it V Faction, if you didn't bash me for having an opinion.
