This forum was inspired partially by GrnMarvl's postings of various science topics. Hence, we now have a science forum. It's not, and I repeat not the same as Geeky Misc., which (as I see) is devoted to computer science and technology. This forum is for topics related to various fields of scientific study including astronomy, biology, geology, physics, mathematics, zoology, etc.

The title is Latin, of course, and is attributed to Michaelangelo, who supposedly stated this at the ripe old age of 87.

Actually, it is Italian. I was trying to figure out how it was parsed in Latin, but couldn't make heads or tails of it, so I did a search. According to the article for [wp]Monash University[/wp]: "The university motto is Ancora imparo, (Italian) meaning 'I am still learning', a saying attributed to Michelangelo."

Yes its Italian, Michelangelo has never learnt Latin btw :p

I disagree. 'Ancora' I presume means 'learn[ing]'. However, 'imparo' must be the verb 'I am [still]'- but Italian is not an inflective language whereas Latin is... Italian would have a person not contained with the verb [in English, 'I'] but 'imparo' has the -o ending which, in Latin, is the first person singular...

Actually, I would hazard the guess that Ancora means "Still" and Imparo something like "Learning".

Because Ancora sounds suspiciously like french (derived from latin, like italian) encore, which is "still".

(Also, sorry Barb. I tried to talk Evan into keeping this name for the Sci Tech forum, but he went all veto on me ;-))
