And now, for something less serious.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

During an interview for CNBC at the White House on Tuesday, a fly intruded on Obama's conversation with correspondent John Harwood.

"Get out of here," the president told the pesky insect. When it didn't, he waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked it dead.

"Now, where were we?" Obama asked Harwood. Then he added: "That was pretty impressive, wasn't it? I got the sucker."

Friedrich said that PETA was pleased with Obama's voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses.

Still, "swatting a fly on TV indicates he's not perfect," Friedrich said, "and we're happy to say that we wish he hadn't."

Deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said the White House has no comment on the matter.

You've got to be kidding me.

Whatever credibility the PETA had, they've just lot all of it. There's no way anyone can take them seriously.

Good Job Obama! It's good to know that our president is competent enough to kill a fly! I mean, we don't want another president who can screw up that policy again. *Listens to Obama blame Bush for allowing the White House Fly polutaion to increase*

Since when was PETA credible to begin with?

Oh, PETA. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.

I knew they'd have something to say after seeing Obama kill the fly.

Over on LJ someone suggested people round up the various pests in their house and send them to PETA, if they love them so much.

XD
PETA...always being over dramatic. It's a fly not a Venonat!

Why did they bring this up anyways? Its worthless.

If an organization has to strip naked to prove their point and full of attention whores, It's not worth supporting.
------
And over a damn fly too, they should concertrate on real animal abuse IMHO.

False. Any organization that's willing to have people strip naked to get my support is brilliant.

I do admit the women have great bodies, I like how fit they usually are. :D

Ugh, it's PETA... Any press is better than no press, right?

No, we cannot stand for this outrage! PETA must send nude models to DC to protest this atrocity! Please?

PETA, strange group. Had a friend in PETA, she was cooky, but not like some of these people >.>

I have bug catchers in my home: they're called spiders. Don't know how humane they are, though.

What a worthless thing to get concerned about. What's next?

'Oh no, that precious microbacteria has been stepped on. TAKE ACTION OBAMA, STOP THIS ABUSE!!!!!!'

QQ: Has PETA ever actually done anything at all in regards to advocating the rights of flies?

someone suggested people round up the various pests in their house and send them to PETA, if they love them so much.
I support this notion; if they don't want them dead, then they can have the local infestation of funnel-web spiders.
