Animal Crossing Wild World was the highest selling game in Japan last year, and has continued to sell, recently passing the three million units mark in Japan alone. Nintendo has realised the possibility that they might have another Pokémon on their hands, and announced plans to create a movie based on the licence in an effort to create another multimedia sensation out of the property.

First of all, don't worry - it will not be live action! It will be an animated feature by Master Keaton and Shin Angyo Onshi. director Jouji Shimura, and the game's developers are heavily involved to make sure the movie stays true to the games. The movie doesn't have a name yet, but will be in Japanese theaters before the end of the year.

We can't help but wonder exactly how a movie based on the Sims like 'lifestyle' game will work. Will the plot be about having to return Tangy's magazine? Collecting some magical fossil, fish or bug? We're intrigued, and will get you more info as soon as it's available.

My thoughts exactly.

This is certainly an odd move. Then again, Nintendo seems to be all about making odd decisons that work now a days.

Plot is certainly something to ponder here. Excatly what substance in AC is there
to make a decent movie? Nook bashing me for not paying my mortgage on time? lol.

Is there a more legitimate source than just a fansite for this?

:jaw drops: You're pulling my leg. An Animal Crossing movie?! AWESOME!!!

Yay!

I love playing Animal Crossing: Wild World, and I never thought they'd make a movie based on it! ^^

That's really cool!!!! :-D

I saw a pic of the movie, looks to be cute.

They'll probably make up a story that fits in with AC while being full enough to support a movie. I can see it being about a kid who moves into a village, has to make new friends and watch old ones move away, learns about the village and works his way up in the world, and it ends with some big lesson about friendship or trying your hardest or something like that. It's cheesy, but it'd work.

Thier was a Mario OVA...
