I got to say first off, I will always love Ash's first Kanto team. Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander and evolutions, and Squirtle. Those four chemistry was amazing. It genuinely seemed like the four were made to be a team of awesome. Butterfree and Pidgeotto were great mainstays. I got to give props to Ash's heavy hitters like Snorlax, Muk, Lapras, Kingler, and Tauros.

I always loved Heracross, Donphan and Totodile.

The Treecko line was amazing. I love Sceptile. Corphish was hilarious. Torkoal was very unassuming with its power and Swellow was pure confidence.

However, my favorite overall team has to be Ash's current Sinnoh team including Brock and Dawn's teams.

Ash always balances his teams with different types. Pikachu is the clear veteran and probably epic level pokemon on his team. Gliscor is brimming with personality. He is the only pokemon that made laugh hard while watching an episode. That tongue and wink gets me everytime. His Staraptor is the backbone of the team. It always has the others in check. Grotle is going to be great when it learns how to combat using its lesson from Torterra about patience and power. Chimchar is perhaps the most psychologically scarred pokemon on any team. Dealing with Captain D-bag Paul made him lose confidence in himself. With Ash, his confidence has come back and his personality and chemistry with Pikachu, Buizel, and Grotle is great. Now Buizel...Where do I begin? This critter is so awesome. His gung-ho march to improve his battle skills. His tenacity is great. The fun rivalry between him and Brock's Croagunk. I watched his battle against Maylene's Lucario and that is probably my favorite gym battle of all. And they all are great battles individually.

Dawn's pokemon are fantastic. I think Buneary is so incredibly cute. The episode where Dawn catches it and its crush on Pikachu made me laugh at how cute it was acting. Piplup is terrific no matter what. Pachurisu is the token dumbass cute and powerful pokemon. Great for Dawn. Ambipom is one of my favorites too. Swinub and its evolution into Mamoswine is going to be great for the heroes as well.

Brock has two badass pokemon and that is great in my book. Croagunk has gotten so much characterization and personality. His battle style, his intense friendship with Brock is amazing as well. One of the best in the entire anime. Sudowoodo is another wonderful pokemon because it is a fighting tree. Plus after evolving from Bonsly, his personality changed to being the moral support of Brock's team. Happiny makes me laugh when it uses its "hidden Strength" move. I loved when Happiny was holding Quagsire in the Rise of Darkrai.

I generally agree. As much as I like Ash's later teams, there was just something about Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charizard that had great chemistry together.

Those 3 along with Pikachu is the only team that actually felt like friends. Everytime that team is reunited its always for something big, and I'm glad the writers continue to do it for long-term fans of the series.

It may be nostalgia getting in the way, but whenever Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charizard are together, it always feels "special" and brings back good memories.

I bet they'll be reunited during the Elite 4 eps at the end of Sinnoh.

Too bad there's no chance of Pidgeot returning to re-make the little team of 5 there was back in the Kanto days, that would've been nice.

In terms of fave teams, I really like May's. As a co-ordinator, she seems to have a nice balance of powerful pokemon that also have charm and beauty.
