I’m referring to those battles that Ash lost, tied or came close to losing. Battles where Ash either had to pull out of the stops to steal a win (whether it be skill, luck or a CLEAR BS win provided by the writers).

There are a lot I could choose from but one battle I really liked was Ash vs. E4 Agatha after the Hoenn League. The one thing I HATED was Ash forgetting normal moves don’t do any damage to Ghost types, that was a major step back from a guy ranking Top 8 for the second league in a row.

It was a really close battle and showed how much Ash and Pikachu have grown as a team nearly defeating an E4 member’s strongest Pokemon.

What battles do you think standout in this category?

Ash vs Roxie. Ash used six pokemon she used three. And Ash only won because of Pikachus Static.

Satoshi's Heracros vs. Shigeru's Boober. That was total bullshit the the only bad part of an otherwise excellent battle (in case you didn't see it, Heracros took a Flamethrower and Fire Blast to the freakin' face and survived before knocking out Boober with the single Megahorn).

Actually, Heracross used Fury Attack (which was incorrectly called "Fury Swipes") and Megahorn to KO Magmar - not that that makes much of a difference. That whole battle did have several OHKOs, so I wouldn't say that that was the only problem with it, either.

The climax of that battle could certainly considered to be one of Ash's close calls.
