After seeing more episodes of Pokémon, where the new scriptwriters are going with the animé, and from what I can gather in the DP episodes coming shortly, I think I've summed up the entire Pokémon animé:
An eternal beginner's guide.
It seems like they need to introduce every Pokémon, almost every move, how to battle, how to win, how the stragedy worked, this and that, blah blah and what not, so on and so forth.
They started with Ash, which is perfectly logical. They had him go over ego-shatterings, tough times, and great accomplishments. But then they brought in May, and they started the WHOLE process again.
The show has become far too peaceful for one with intense action scenes, and this has been the main problem since the beginning. The show is about a video game, and that video game is all about battling, fighting, and proving who's going to win. But whenever fights start to get very intense in the show, someone has to come running out, screaming for the madness to stop. Pacifism isn't meant for Pokémon, writers! Quit trying to show how cool their battling is, then saying how wrong it is!
To be honest, I just want a second Pokémon animé, one for the older fans. I don't mean blood and cursing, oh-no, that's not Pokémon. I mean one where the Pokémon and moves don't have to be explained over and over. One where the Pokémon can evolve, be powerful, and STAY for the show. One that features intense battling like in the tournaments and contests, and no, please God NO people trying to stop a fight because, heaven forbid, a Pokémon might get hurt.
I know the general public would have a field day if a second Pokémon animé came out. Well, to hell with the general public. They have over a million crime shows, sixty thousand soap operas, a hundred thousand 'comedy' shows, reality TV, channels for only broadcasting movies or the weather, new cartoons coming out almost every week, and they're going to bitch about a second Pokémon animé? Heh, I think hypocricy always has a funny turn-around.
If I seem bitter about this, I guess it's because I'm one of the older Pokémon fans who was there when it first came to America, and defended it regardless of being verbally assaulted at school. Now today, it seems they're forgetting that there's more than ten year-olds who like Pokémon, mainly because those ten year-olds are now the adults and older teens who are still loyal. I don't think a second, more mature Pokémon series is asking much, especially since we know the current one is still a classic, regardless of its flaws.
So, who's with me on this? Wouldn't a second Pokémon animé be nice to have?
