Anyone else think the female Psuedo Rivals need more personality?

I've played as both Brendan and May in Emerald, I've also played as both Dawn and Lucas in Diamond.

Brendan has some sort of personality, maybe even character development. May..Is just so helpful, and giggly. I've always seen her as being a tomboy, I can handle her being so peppy but she needs some sort of personality. She's just "That girl that follows you and helps you".

Lucas has a personality of sorts, he seems to be a joker. He's still a bit annoying, but at least he has a personality. Dawn though..She's hardly better then May.

The female Psuedo Rivals are so stereotypically feminine and helpful. I hate it.

I'd hate to see what they would do to Leaf, she's my favorite character in the franchise.

I haven't played as anything but the males in Emerald and Platinum, so I didn't know that there was any real differences with the "psuedo-rivals" depending on which gender you're playing as. I always just assumed that the scripts were identicle. That said, I did always think that May was a little bit boring compared to Blue and Silver. As for Dawn, I always just thought that she was boring because she wasn't really all that important to the plot, like your proper rival.

No. Lucas has a sense of humor, and Brendan keeps on saying how he's going to beat you, and otherwise has a personality. Plus, he complained how he thought you were a boy, when you meet him.
He has an extra line too.

Ugh, I really hate that too.

I really dislike that they are made to be "shy and sweet", it's annoying. At least the males had a LITTLE spice even if they were souless and boring. The females Psuedo Rivals are just moe moe desu jail bait in the story and the player's bitch pretty much. >>

Which is why I hope there isn't another game that confirms a "canon" protagonist because if there is, it will most likely be another male and the female will be the one that sits at home doing nothing.

The opposite-gender NPCs in general could use more of a personality and in HGSS they don't even do anything. Not even a tag battle.

Lucas has a proper personality???!!!! OK, I think I'm going to be female protagonist in the next gen, if the female character is awesome like Kris, not too disgusting and girly like Kotone, or a slut like Dawn.

They seriously should stop doing that. I want a female jerk Rival, not a moe. We already have enough moes in anime.

Indeed, they could use more pizazz. I liked how May acted, it's almost how i saw her personality, but Dawn was so nice I found it a bit unnerving.

you need to have more hardcore battles with them. With them having good teams. The only way to see Dawn's/Lucas' team is by killing them in the double battles when he/she battles alongside you. In r/s eventually Wally's team is better then your rivals', while he only appears a few times.

Wait..You liked May?
To me, she just seemed like a second mother. Always wondering about your safety, and being giggly.

Yeah I wish for them to be more evil like that red purple haired girl from Team Rocket and another thingy girls are also considered to be vulnerable I mean look at Princess Peach she's constantly being nabbed by that tyrant king Bowser

May was too mother like and Dawn was just too nice I don't know about the girl from HG/SS because I don't read Japan language but she's probably gonna be real nice

Yeah, that was real sweet of her. Dawn gives good advice but doesn't seem to be any more concerned for the player than that.

I cant even think of Dawn as a rival of any sort. As its stated you just help with Rowans work together and all she does is kindly give advice. I mean at least May challenged you. Im my opinion May overall was atleast a better character then Dawn.. Though Dawn does have a good use.. That sister of hers telling me whats swarming.

I really want to see a tomboy psuedo-rival (or, heck, even a full out rival!).

I think it'd be fun having a girl rival that acts tough, maybe can be a little bitchy at times, and, even though she may not want to, helps you out. (Tsundere anyone?)

I don't see what's so different between Brendan and May and between Lucas and Dawn. I see people prefer jerk guys over perky girls, and boring guys over... boring girls.

DP Dawn was terribly boring. Platinum's was a huge improvement, thanks to her modified dialogue and her interactions with Looker, which turned her into a more cheerful, albeit easily annoyed kind of girl (Look at her snapping to Looker after she recovers the Pokédex in Veilstone). I'm not crazy to restart Platinum so to check if Lucas had any kind of improvement from DP (Where he was also boring), but I doubt it's so astounding it makes Dawn look like crap.

As for Brendan and May, I fail to see the difference. Again, I didn't play Emerald as a girl too much, but in Ruby/Sapphire, the only difference I saw was, as said above, May is more perky and doesn't mind losing. Brendan does, and he usually comes off as a jerk in many of his after-losing quotes. I don't see how one is "better" than the other. I find both profiles to be acceptable.

I barely even notice the "Psuedo Rivals" so to speak since they don't contribute to the plot over all, so why should it matter much if they are boring so to speak?

I know there's some variation in diolouge, but I had no idea that they're supposed to have different personalities. Both come off as earnestly trying to be helpful even though they aren't.

yeah dude, in Pearl and Platinum i pretty much ignored everything Dawn said after it became obvious she wasn't going to battle you, whats the point?

So? She's still your friend, your rival. I just ignored her because she's annoying. I'm glad I didn't delete my Dawn file.

Rival my foot, rivals are supposed to compete with you (which she does not), shes more like a childhood friend (that youve outgrown years ago), she never tried to fight me or anything, just blabbing on and on about junk.

I never really considered him/her a rival either, just a Professor's aide with the other protagonist's "skin". It's obvious from the get-go that your rival is supposed to be Barry.
