Anyone feel as though the dub is getting better?

I don't know about you guys, but for me, ever since DuArt startted dubbing the show, I've noticed an increased quality in almost everything: Music, amount kept, translation, volume, things like that. Only problems could be length of opening and cropping(and TR and their stupid-ass run-on sentences) but other than that....good.

Do any of you guys feel the same way?

eh no.

I don't really like the *insert subject we are not to discuss*

And that being a large part of the dub kinda ruins it for me.

Also, the dialogue and its delivery is just plain bad.

The only thing I like is that they're keeping more of the original music.

Other than that, not really. I don't like the new dub music itself, and the dialogue has gotten worse imo.

Nope. I dont like the dialogue in general. In my opnion, theres not much feeling in the delivery. The conversations seem a bit dull (not all of the time, but often)

Also, jokes are virutally nonexistent. Team Rocket doesnt chime in with with random puns anymore. Theres no Misty or Max to mutter things while they pull Brock away from a girl. Theres no childish arguements.

I dont even watch Pokemon anymore. I think I've just outgrown it, but the boringness of the new dub sure did help.

Team Rocket's dialogue sucks 90% of the time, no ifs, and, or buts about it. Over the years they've gone from genuinely hilarious to annoying as they try to pilfer a crop of primo Pokémon and with benefits to boot or whatever the hell. :/ Not to mention they can't stop randomly insulting each other randomly.

Plus the openings have taken a dive in quality after season 7, the exceptions being season 11 and the second season 12 opening.

Other than that, same as always. It would be so much more enjoyable if they kept all the damn music 100% of the time.

If you ask me, Pokemon's no fun to watch anymore D:
Uh...that's how it is the Japanese version.

The dub has improved some. It's better than the dark days of seasons seven and eight. It's not an awesome dub by any stretch of the imagination, but it has gotten a little better over the past four years and continues to improve at a snail's pace. I'm with the others who say they should just keep the original score unadulterated. That alone would solve most of their problems.

There needs to be more comic relief. Brock doesn't cut it anymore...

Well, voice actors aside, yes, I think the dub is getting better, but still it's nowhere where I want it to be. Which means keep all BGM, original opening and ending and very close dialogues. But seeing how we will never get this, I rather take what we have now then what we had back in 4Kids and TAJ era.

Theres no Misty or Max to mutter things while they pull Brock away from a girl.
Sorry, but how is this even closely related to dub?

To answer the topic question, yes and no.

Obviously, the big issue is the handling of the music. I am grateful for what the Dub keeps intact, but far too much still gets replaced with subpar music that is maybe better suited for some other cartoon series. I know some people complain about this a little excessively during episode discussions, but I think they have a legit point. 99% percent of the time when the Dubbers insert their own in-house music -even to replace vocal songs, it is unsettling, uneven, or generally unfitting to mood the scene in question is trying to convey. And in some cases it is downright dreadful... which is I'm hoping that TPCI/DuArt invest the resources they have and hand and take care of the necessary paperwork to ensure that the Dub retains all the original music, including instrumentals to vocals, and minimizes if not eliminates the use of additional music.

As for the openings, I too would like to see a 60-70 second intro, but that largely depends whether CartoonNetwork is willing to make room in their time-slot withe one less 30-second advertisement.

I really liked most of the 4Kids openings, if they could reach that level at least, I'd be happy... of course, simply dubbing the Japanese OP and ED would be the best, but they'll probably never do that
TRio's dialogue is completely extremely stupid since season 10 began... I don't remember if it was so bad in season 9 and it definitely wasn't in the first 8 seasons
The main problem for me is the background music... hopefully one day they'll get a brain and keep all/most of the original BGM... but that's unlikely too

- Really bad openings, compared to both 4kids and jap. version
- Cropping, no HD.... the difference in video quality is enourmous (comp. to jap version)
- Can't understand most of TR's dialogue. 4kids was better.
- Managing to ruin complete episodes by replacing music (DP118 and Staravia's evolution is a prime example)
- TCPI's dub music is worse than 4kids, which amplifies what I wrote above

Conclusion: The dub sucks. HARD.

lolsubelitist

I think the dub's a bit better than what 4Kids did, but it seems to be getting there.

I'd say that overall, the dub has gotten better. It seems to have a closer and tighter feeling than with 4Kids. I think the biggest improvement (along with more original music being kept each new season) to the dub was TPCI starting to add moments of silence in season 11. It makes the show seem a little more.... professional, I guess.

Yeah, the dub has slightly improved because of the music and silence, but there's still a ways to go.

Team Rocket has always sucked, but they suck in a different way with PCI. They have absolutely no clue what to do with "Conquer Shinou, make speedy success and feel good!" most of the time. It just gets translated into incoherent babble, and the less said the better about their puns. But the biggest problem as has been said is the insults.

But there's really only so much PCI can do. Even if they stop the insulting and their incoherent babels, it's too late in the series to turn them into funny characters.

I don't know about keeping vocals. Maybe the instrumental songs of these vocals, but not with the voices. I don'[t know if there are good singers out there who would sing for this show lol. or maybe, if they kept the voices they'd have a translation above or something....

Though, I ntoice PCI is keeping more non-battle music(aside from TR's Secret Strategy), something that 4Kids rarely did. That and the silence, tells me they're going in the right direction.

I would love to see a longer opening too.

So apparently the cosensus is PCI haveing TR make more sense, and keeping more music.

Agreed. Although during their emotional episodes Team Rocket's lines are always dubbed correctly

These are the only two problems I see with the PCI dub. Everything else is okay and some even an improvement from the 4Kids dub. PCI sticks more to original script than they did in both the series and movies.

It's still unknown if they did it. The fact that they changed the opening scenes makes it seems like they did keep it in HD but for some reason we didn't get it. Perhaps the previous episode not being in HD was just an error

Yes!

I completely agree with you, because those were my exact thoughts too. ^^

*high fives Ryuutakesh!*

However, I will say this...

In recent episodes of Pokemon Galactic Battle, I've noticed that the script is now being written in a very similar way to the 4Kids dub. In fact, it's strikingly similar. =O

I'm curious if anyone else has noticed how close the script writing has become, to the writing of the 4Kids dub.

To be specific, I'm referring to the way they're writing Ash, Brock, and Dawn's lines. But mostly, Ash's lines (since he's my favorite character). The dialogue seems very similar to the way they used to write the script in the 4Kids dub, so this is a plus, in my book. It's one good thing that the Pokemon USA dub has going for it. And this is also why I'm able to enjoy certain episodes of Galactic Battle. ^^

But unfortunately, even with the script being awesome again, it's still not the same show, in my opinion. =(

Anyway, I'm sure most of you already know this, but I still prefer the 4Kids dub over the Pokemon USA dub. XD To be honest, I'll always prefer the 4Kids dub. Unless Pokemon USA makes certain changes to their dub, to make it more enjoyable for me and other fans who want the same thing. In that case, I would like the Pokemon USA dub, just as much as I love the 4Kids dub. =P

And as for the Japanese version, I have no comments on it, because I don't watch it. XD

EDIT: On a side-note, I haven't posted here in ages, lol. So, kudos to the person who started this thread!! =D

I think the current dub is pretty good; Way better than 4Kids, by far. Just stop making Team Rocket sound so retarded; Like, when they talk they always seem to rhyme a word with another and it always sounds awkward; And Meowth isn't jewish, stop that.
