Now that I'm out of school, I want to catch up on reading. Anyone read any books lately that they loved? I need suggestions! Thanks!

What kind of books do you like? What are some things you have read that you absolutely loved? I've been a big Sci-fi/fantasy fan so if those are your genres of choice then I might be able to help.

Until I know your like for genres, I can't give you any real recommendations. However, a book I just finished today that in my opinion was very good was The Rules of Survival. It's about a boy telling his story about his childhood, growing up with an abbusive, crazy mother and his attempts to escape. It may sound cliche, but trust me, it's good.

Hey, thanks for replying, my favorite genres are sci-fi/ fantasy and historical fiction, but I'll try anything!

The Rules of Survival sounds interesting I'll have to check it out

I've been rereading some Kurt Vonnegut novels I really dig; Breakfast of Champions, Cat's Cradle, God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, Player Piano, Slaughterhouse-Five, among others...

I just finished Ted Kennedy's memoir; True Compass... one of the better memoirs in recent memory...

I also read Sarah Palin's Going Rouge... but it certainly isn't good... feels rushed in every way, and I would have a hard time believing that the book is serious if it wasn't Palin's... it reads like a satire of modern Republican ideals... or it would, if it wan't Palin.

David Gemmell's Troy series are good

I'm listening to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on audiotape right now, if that counts. My favorite book. ^^

If you want some dark, gritty, depressing, hardcore low fantasy, George R.R Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series is amazing. I wouldn't say it's for the faint of heart, but very few books can consume my soul as much as this series did. I crave more.

If you like historical fiction, you might like Caleb Carr's The Alienist... it's also a murder mystery. I read it for an American history class when I was a sophomore. I thought it was really good.

Also, for fantasy/sci-fi, I rather liked the Pendragon series by D.J. MacHale. It's made up of ten books and it's an easy read but I really liked it.

I recently finished the Fourth Apprentice

If you like sci-fi novels, these can't go wrong:

*Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton (the book is much better than the movie)
*The Lost World by Michael Crichton
*Star Wars: Shatterpoint
*Star Wars: Labyrinth of Evil
*Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

ANYTHING BY STEPHEN KING. <3
Pet Semetary especially, gdamn I love his stuff.

If you enjoy historical fiction, I highly recommend James A. Michener. His usual formula is to cover a geo-politcal area by using several founding families of different backgrounds as they grow and change due to real-life events.
He is very good at describing environments and moments, though his character dialogue is lacking (this is only noticeable towards the point his novels when they reach into the modern day).
My favorite by him would be The Covenant, which covers South Africa, though Texas isn't bad if you can stomach the prologue.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is one of the best Sci-Fi books I have ever read. If you haven't read it and enjoy Sci-Fi, I recommend you pick it up!
