In gen 1 2 and 3 there was had a unique eye style that most human as well as a handful of Pokemon from those generations had, the pokemon who have this eye style are...

Tentacruel

Victreebel

Kadabra

Alakazam

Farfetch'd

Fearow

Pinsir

Granbull

Voltorb

Poliwrath

Dodrio

Exeggcute

Ursaring

Aggron

Sceptile

Swampert

Zangoose

Exploud

almost every human had this eye style up into Pokemon Emerald when the current eye style started to appear, as of HGSS only 4 human characters retain this old eye style, Professor Oak, Giovanni, Koga and Kurt.

Before the Best Wishes anime, Ash Ketchum had this eye style as well.

What are you thoughts of it?

I wasn't aware all of those shared an eye type with Ash. As for the question, it made Ash stand out really but I've gotten use to his new look.

The all have the same eye style.

I do remember this in those games. They all seem so pissed to see me disturbing their precious grass. Can't blame 'em, I guess. :p

Very interesting. It seems they wanted to use a simpler eye style back then? At least, for Generation I due to limitations. For III, it could be because they don't want the eyes to detract from the design? Or perhaps they just had a different style. Nowadays, they've been getting a bit more expressive and more animesque, as well as more cutesyish. I can't really say which one I prefer, as I'm neutral to both. (Ignoring my obvious nostalgia bias, of course.)
