In Pokemon Go, there are 3 different teams. Spark’s Team Instinct, with their mascot being Zapdos, Blanche’s Team Mystic, their mascot is Articuno, and of course, Candela’s Team Valor, with their mascot being Moltres. But... why those three? Pokemon like the Eeveelutions, the legendary Beasts, ect. could work as well. Well, maybe the reason the team leaders chose the legendary birds as their mascots... Is because the leaders are the legendary birds.

If this is true, this would not only explain their mascot thing, but also how rare the leaders are. They appear when you join a team and when you appraise a Pokemon. Maybe when they aren’t doing that they change back into the legendary birds? The leaders are very mysterious...

As legendary Pokemon, Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres are rare. So rare, they have never been seen in the wild. While no other legends have, this kinda backs this up.

Also, Professer Willow might be Lugia if this is true, since he does appear to be their leader. But most of it is just speculation.
Even if it does seem

, this possibly could be true. But that’s the thing with theories.

(Also, new fanfic material! I would like to see a story where this theory is true!)So...
  • Do you agree or disagree? Why?
  • Do you think that the team leaders have some sort of connection with the Legendary Birds?
  • On a scale of 1 to 10, how possible is this theory?
  • Do you have any other ideas for the series "APokemon theory”?

Do you agree or disagree? Why?
I disagree because there's been no evidence that Pokemon such as the legendary birds can assume human forms.

They could sure have, I'd like to see this expanded when the legendary birds become available in the game. Perhaps they saw their respective one as children or they already own them/are going to be the ones to catch them and we need to get it from them to obtain it in the game.

I'd say 2. Quite impossible but not completely if some future information reveals legendary Pokemon can assume human forms.

Not at the moment :)

Well, if Ninetales and even Gastly can take human forms... yes. They both did in the anime.
Also, there has been examples of humans becoming Pokemon, mainly in PMD and Bill. Maybe an experiment on the legendary birds gave them this ability. This could be in a universe where similar events to the second Pokemon movie happened, but Lawrence III captured them and gave them this power. Plus, we already know Lugia can talk from Power of One. Also, we know very little about Pokemon Go's story or special abilities of the legendaries that they have only in this game. Another thing is that in the manga they fused the legendary birds. Maybe the aftereffect is the ability to shapeshift...

I see them as human versions (gijnkas) of their teams' respective Legendary Birds. I don't think there's lore or a plotline behind Pokémon Go although if they did a manga, the manga likely would have them either be human legendary birds or have the legendary birds as their partner Pokémon, that is if the manga is'nt about "real world" people playing PoGo.

I disagree, since they're said to be the powerful elemental Pokemon, so they're taken to be mascots. Any stray Pokemon could defeat Eeveelutions. The legendary beasts are from Johto, not Kanto. The game began with Kanto.

This alone destroys the whole premise of the theory. The legendary birds were the most logical choice.
(You just made me think a fourth team will pop up as a villaneous one which will have a Mewtwo/Lugia mascot)

Articuno. 4x weak to rock. Stone Edge from a Rhydon will rip it in half.
Moltres. Also 4x weak to rock and instakilled by Stone Edge.
Zapdos. Weak to rock and ice. May survive one Stone Edge, but will be killed by the next.

So yeah. A rock type will demolish le birbs.

I'm not talking about metagame, but lore. Also, the birds are said to be far more powerful than eeveelutions.
I honestly think it's not feasible to compare the legendary birds to the eeveelutions.

So, eeveelution fans, admit it, the birbs are more important than eeveelutions, and were the best choice.

EDIT: I've used a Mimikyu to OHKO Mewtwo, so does that make Mewtwo any less powerful? I've also used Typhlosion to KO Groudon. Does that mean Groudon is weak? Of course not.

There's no record of legendary birds being able to turn into humans.
Just because other Pokemon have the ability to do so, doesn't mean these birds can.

Also, the reason the legendary birds are chosen is more likely to be because they are the first set of unobtainable Pokemon that fulfills the fire-electric-ice circle.

They could have gone for the Eeveelutions, but Eeveelutions are obtainable, so it lacks the same level of mystery given from these birds.

AND they're common. I wouldn't keep a common Pokemon as a mascot of a team meant to generate mystique.
How about Jynx, Electabuzz, and Magmar? They’re rare but obtainable, Jynx’s Psychic type matches Mystic’s focus towards wisdom, it works. We don’t know if the birbs will ever be obtainable.

I don't think they want to market Jynx internationally due to the controversy in USA, and USA is a rather large overseas market.
Also, they are not as rare as legendaries.

(They can market Jynx all they want in Japan, but only within Japan. Jynx does have a Pokemon GO advert all to herself in Japan.
Anything to do with overseas market, they'd remove Jynx.
Junichi Masuda purposefully removed Jynx when he recited the PokeRap in "How many Pokemon can you name in 30 seconds?" )

Having the birds as mascots can lure more people to the events, if they wish to distribute the birds through events.
