Think about it. The Pokethlon has upgradeable stats through the use of apri-shakes. The Pokethlon is also a nice breath of fresh air and will likely be in future games. But of course that would mean Apricorns become less Johto exclusive. Would you want it to happen? I certainly do as I find some of the balls good for using and it would be nice to see ball makers in other regions.

I don't know that the Apricorn Shaker will stay, I mean so far no contest/Pokethlon raiser has stayed. But I would love Apricorns to stay around, I was disappointed when they were removed in Gen III.

True but berries were still used for the contest poffins.

I doubt giving the apricorns a reason for existance besides balls would be creating a whole new minigame sidequest that isn't contests. That sounds stupid to be honest.

I for one do doubt Apricorns staying. Even though they did get rid of they Berry trees and give them a Key item and Apricorns the trees.

they'll probably just give that function to berry's in the future, should the pokethlon stay.

but if the 5th generation has a Pal Park, I think it's safe to assume that all non-key items would be programmed in the game. Therefor, Apricorns would be included in generation 5 and not just thrown out after an apparent reset like what happened between generations 2 and 3 (I can bet you anything that if generation 4 wasn't backwards compatible, the Dive Ball would no longer exist). And if the Pokethlon's in gen 5 as well, why suddenly turn its stat-uppers into something that's already handling contests?

that's suggestive. Say gen V doesn't have a pal park, then there is no need to reprogramme apricorns while you can also just give that function to the first five berries.

And even if they have a pal park, they can just make the apricorns useless, and still use the berries instead.

HGSS was meant to be the training ground for possible future game mechanics.

Do not ask for proof because as much I'd love to post it, I can't find the interview that stated such.

I don't see it happening. Any effects that Apricorns have for the Pokethlon could easily just be given to a new type of item introduced in future generations, assuming that the Pokethlon even makes another appearance after HG/SS. Besides, I never really liked using Apricorns. Having to wait an entire day just for a handfull of PokeBalls? No thanks.

Not necessarily. If GenV does have some kind of Time Maching/Pal Park type function, it's always possible that they simply won't allow you migrate in a Pokemon that's holding an item that isn't compatible with the GenV games. They do it with Moves (In GenII, you can't trade a Pokemon to a GenI game if it knows any GenII moves, and you can't migrate a Pokemon from GenIII to GenIV if it knows any HM moves), so there's no reason that they can't do it with Hold Items as well.

They could also simply have the Pokemon "drop" the item when it migrates, similar to how Giratina will drop the Griseous Orb if you try and trade it from Pt to D/P.
