Brought to you by the producers of Smallville comes...AQUAMAN in his own series. Can't say I'm too excited about this one. Instead of Flash or Green Lantern or Wonder Woman, they go with...Aquaman? Aquaman's like...the JLA joke. He's a great character, but they had to cut off his hand to get more readers, and even THAT was only short-term. There's just not a lot you can do with him. Especially considering the way ALL WB shows seem to work. But who knows? It might work.

Don't worry. Like Smallville and Roswell, Charmed, and all WB Scifi and Fantasy shows, he won't be going on amazing adventures so much as falling in love with people, having sex with them, and angsting about it afterwards.

Now this is some great news. Aquaman has always been my favorite.

Honestly, I love Tempest but I hate Aquaman. I wish Garth could replace Arthur like Wally replaced Barry.

See...my problem is that, out of the ENTIRE big 7 JLA members, I have NO idea what Aquaman's origin is, and he's the ONLY one. I mean, I know that he's half-Atlantean/half-human (who came first? Namor or Aquaman?), but that's it for his origin. If his origin is even remotely close to Namor's, then this is going to COMPLETELY screw people up.

Well, if this is the character who's a Marine Biologist from Smallville, then it's likely to be vastly different - but:

Aquaman was born as Orin to Atlanna the queen of Atlantis and court magician Atlan. He was abandoned as a child because he had blonde hair, which was seen as a curse by the Atlaneans. He was raised by dolphins and a lighthouse keeper and later journeyed to the North Pole where he first fought his evil brother Om and fathered a son with an eskimo.

Finally, he found Atlantis and was put into prison along with his mother who was killed. He freed himself, cleared his name, and became a King and a Superhero.

There's more, but that's problably all you need to know for a loosely adapted TV show.

It won't have ANYTHING to do with the Aquaman on Smallville (or at least, it won't be based on that character, nor will it have that actor). And I GUESS that could work in a Smallville-esque way, but I have a feeling it's going to go the way of Birds of Prey (although I actually LIKED that show, despite not being a big fan of Huntress' costume).

Casting info has been released for Aquaman. Shows the main characters and gives background info on them (possible spoilers if the series makes it on the air).
