Many people have viewed Arceus as the 'God' of Pokemon, and questioned the Ability to 'top' Arceus. But what if they don't choose to top Arceus, but instead make a counterpart for him in this new Generation. An equal. Arceus the Creator, and ******* the Destroyer, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.

What are you opinions on this possibility?
And how would you feel about an 'old' legendary being one of the Box Mascots?

If this thread is floating about and has escaped me, a link would be much appreciated as I am very interested in peoples views on the matter. Thank you. ^^

Yeah, I'd go with this. Power-wise, I don't know if they could top Arceus with any significant difference in power. I vote a darker counterpart.

Were you floating the Shivu parallel idea, or was that someone else? Someone was floating the Hindi-Creator-Destroyer-Balancer cycle as potential legendaries.

I myself am more partial to the good creator evil destroyer dynamic, but whaddayagonnado.

And yes, I would be happy with Mewtwo/Mew or Darkrai/Cresselia as box mascots.

A counterpart would be the easiest way to go while creating something to rival him. the biggest mistake that game freak. made was to allow for so many legendaries in one generation when they could have kept it to fewer and not have to outdone itself.

Who says the Sinnoh-religion is the true religion? Think about it. Sinjoh Ruins are a sign of the two cultures of two countries merging, and there is some discrepancies if you think of all 493 Pokémon. Heck, who says Pokémon's main religion only has one God?

Arceus - Created Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf.
Mew - Ancestor of ALL Pokémon

Well...Arceus couldn't have created Mew, who then created Dia/Pal/Gira, because we've seen Arceus create one of them. It would make sense for Kanto and Johto to share the same majority religion, as they're connected. But it's clearly shown that Johto's differs from Sinnoh's (Why would they have a temple erected to show the MIXTURE of beliefs if there was only one to begin with?) and Hoenn is an island on it's own, which probably has their own beliefs, as will the new region. So rather than having something 'top' or 'oppose' Arceus, we could get another symbol of the power to create from nothing.

Hasn't Mew been psuedo-retconned to mean all non-legendary, natural Pokemon (and Mewtwo)?

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Every beginning has an end. And from creation can only come destruction. It seems logical that Arceus must have a counterpart, as you say, 'The Destroyer.' Not necessarily a purely evil character, but perhaps there to maintain balance, which could tie in to the plot.

As for the box art, I'd say that if Arceus does get a counterpart it'd appear on the box art for the 3rd game (the crystal/emerald/platinum equivalent) whereas the two new storyline legendaries (ho-oh/lugia, dialga/palkia equivalent) would continue to appear on the box art for the first 2 games.

Nope:
DPt Pokédex: "Because it can use all kinds of moves, many scientists believe Mew to be the ancestor of Pokémon."
SS Pokédex: Its DNA is said to contain the genetic codes of all Pokémon, so it can use all kinds of techniques.

Sure, give him a counterpart.

Whether or not this counterpart would be part of the main quest is unclear. I don't even know if I'd want such an obvious and cliched Pokemon gracing the box. Rather, they can throw him/it in as a small addition to the Arceus legacy if they'd like. They seem to have no problem with throwing in random legendaries after all (hi there Regigigas!)

I hope the mascots for Black/White turn out to be more creative and central to the plot. Though Arceus wasn't officially used as the mascot for any Generation IV game, we've known about him for too long. New generations mean new faces.

...but if there's a destroyer, shouldn't there be a converter? It would make sense, since it coveys to the laws of matter. It can't be created or destroyed, only converted. If Pokemon can break the laws of physics, then one should atleast follow them...

we play pokemon to get away from school, not to have these lessons

I still support my idea of Arceus being only the protector of the Earth, a being that judges what is a threat and what isn't. Arceus can be easily topped if my idea is true.

Sounds like a religion/science conflict to me. Anyways, if arceus is indeed the creator, then it will be white's version legendary, and a counterpart will be introduced which will be the black version legendary. They may all have multitype, and be default normal.

I never understood how people could think that Arceus is worshiped as some kind of God outside of the Sinnoh region. There's no way that's true. That'd be like GF going "OH YEAH, EVEN THOUGH NO ONE HAS EVER MENTIONED IT IN ANY OTHER REGION BESIDES SINNOH, EVERYONE IN THE WORLD WORSHIPS ARCEUS! KTHXBAI!" Yeah, no. It's more logical to believe that the Arceus creation myth is exclusive to Sinnoh.

Pokemon is where I learned a lot of shit people consider smart (like the meanings of drought and cacophony). And you'd be suprised how awesome chemistry can be if used properly. For example, in order to make water, you need an explosion. Now what kind of stupid idea would it be if a Pokemon could turn a school desk into an Oreo Cakester? or a teacher into an explosion into water?

Obviously, it's a polythestic religon, since Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina are treated as Kami (Gods). Also, Sinnoh and Johto are of the same country. In Polythestic relgions, there ARE creator-gods. You guys really need to know more about Shinto, since there are slightly based on Shinto deities.

I like the Shiva-Vinshu-Brahma(Arceus)idea, but a Pokemon based on Amatsu-Mikaboshi is more likely. For all who say, A DESTROYER POKEMON IS NEGATIVE EVIL BLABLA THIS IS A KID'S GAMES, Shivu is not seen in a negative light in Hinduism, without destruction there wouldn't be creation.

Mew - Ancestor of ALL Pokémon
Seems more like an Adam-Eve or Izanagi-Izanami (though Izanagi and Izanami are regarded as Kami) counterpart than a god.

Arceus and his immediate children = God and the angels / Ame-no-Minaka-Nushi-no-Mikoto and the okami.

Mew and his descendents = Adam and his children / Izanagi and Izanami

I think I was the one who suggested a Shiva-based Legendary as a compliment to Arceus.
