What do you think of the way the Pokemon Anime pronounces
Arceus's name? I don't really like it but I can live with it.

I pronounce it as Ar-CEUS (CEUS like Zeus the Greek God of Lightning). I don't like it the way they pronounce it as Ar-KEE-us.
I also like the way they pronounce it in Japanese, Ar-KAY-us.

So tell me trainers, how do you all pronounce it and what do you think of the way the dub pronounce it.

The correct way to say Arceus, as it was shown in Battle Revolution is ARE-SEE-US.

Alright I don't mind Ar-SEE-us, but I still say Ar-CEUS.

P.S. I don't have Pokemon Battle Revolution :p

Ar-ceus is incorrect. The C does not make a sound close enough to the Z sound to pronounce it similar to Zeus. So the way you are saying it is incorrect.

I thought the new movie set the pronunciation as "ar-KEE-us." Also, don't we already have a thread like this?

The way I say it is not incorrect... BUB -_-

This isn't how they pronounce it in Japanese. :/ It's written アルセウス --> Ah-ru-seh-u-su --> Ah-r-seh-u-s (or something like that). Also, when talking about Japanese pronunciation, don't use caps for emphasis because that doesn't happen in Japanese, it's a PITCH change. :|

And @Sketch: He may still be pronouncing it right, but writing it phonetically differently. This isn't the dictionary, we don't need defined rules for how to write pronunciations.

I say Arceus like the Japanese say it. It makes me think of Zeus, the head of the Greek gods, and that's quite fitting for a big important godly Pokemon like Arceus.

I'm convinced they mispronounced his name in the movie on purpose so it wouldn't sound so much like Zeus.

Yeah you right on how they pronounce it in Japanese, it is
Ah-ru-seh-u-su, made a mistake

Hey you may be right about that they mispronounced it on
purpose so it doesn't sound like Zeus. Maybe they didn't
want any reference to any of the Greek Gods in the movie.

P.S. I like the way the pronounce it in Japanese, I like saying
Arceus (Ar-Ceus like in Zeus).

...yes it is. We know how it's supposed to be pronounced. Your way is wrong.

I'm with the thread creator on this. Just because the media pronounces it "AR-SEE-US" doesn't mean it's correct. Media, in general, pronounces many things incorrectly. I believe that his name is pronounced "AR-SOOS", because:

1. Japan pronounces it that way. (Same spelling as Japan, therefore same pronunciation is demanded.)
2. Its prefix, "Arc-" is an obvious reference to a higher power, and in this case, Arceus is regarded by many to be the god-figure of the Pokemon world.
3. Its suffix, "ceus", is a reference to Zeus, the highest authority among the Greek gods. The sound of "zeus" changes as you say it within the context of "Arceus." For anyone that has studied Spanish a bit would know what I mean.

For me, "AR-SAY-US" and "AR-KEE-US" don't really mean anything.

Yeeeah Um...

Movie Trailer 2

Listen in at about :20. That's NOT "Ar-SOOS". It's clearly "A-ru-se-us" (with some of them saying "su" at the end too)
If you continue to say that's how the Japanese say it after watching that video... *facepalm*

Very well. But then why would the movie site, until recently updated for movie 13, featured Satoshi saying Arceus' name as "Arususu", which translates into a pronunciation as "AR-SOOS". Also, the narrator could be saying it that way because that is how it is said in Japanese tongue, as "ARU-SAY-US". But at this point (when I've posted this), there still isn't any "correct" way to pronounce it. But what meaning does "AR-SAY-US" have in it? It still can't be too deep, as the main fanbase is children, which is another reason why "AR-SOOS" works fantastically.

It doesn't work because that's not how you say it. We KNOW how to say Arceus.

This is the same concept as the existence of the word "emaciated" is. People pronounce it as "E-MAY-SHE-A-TED", when it is, with common sense's backing on this, "E-MAY-SEE-A-TED". There is no standardization for that word, just as there isn't for Arceus' name, and we probably won't have one unless the correct authorities (talking about the Pokemon's exact creators here, not Pokemon of America) release the origin of the name.

If the word Arceus was never spoken, I would say that it's up in the air on how to pronounce Arceus, but it's either a soft C or a hard C.

Go by the PBR and use Ar-see-us or go by the anime and use Ark-ee-us. Pick one.

I'd actually rather hear the speculation on the origins for those two, first, just as many others probably would, for either this reason, or for simple curiosity, before I make my decision. Enlighten me as to where you think these are derived from. I have a perfectly logical explanation for mine, therefore I'd like to see the one's for yours. Otherwise, I'm adamant with the red-headed stepchild.

I don't NEED to provide you with a origin of these pronunciations.

Battle Revolution uses Ar-see-us. The Anime uses Ark-ee-us. You are speculating that Zeus is the source of Arceus' name.

This is not that difficult to understand.
