Please forgive me if there's a thread like this, I couldn't find one though.

I've always wondered if they were, what do you guys think? To me they just seem like energy of some sort

No i don't think so anyway & if they were which pokemon would they have been before they died? What about if a ghost pokemon died.. would they be another ghost?

idk, it's just always seemed strange to me.

I really don't know and I really don't care. It doesn't make a difference to me, they're still awesome Pokemon.

I do not agree.

The dead Marowak in the Pokemon Tower, appears as a Ghost when you face it without Silph Scope, but if you have the Silph Scope, it appears as a Marowak, not a Gastly or Haunter. So, it's a No.

I wouldn't agree, because Ghost Pokémon are just Pokémon that most resemble ghosts, not necessarily dead.

Indeed, it is as you say.

I mean, we can see this same misunderstanding with Dark type Pokemon, can't we? In Japan, I think they call their type "evil," but are Dark Pokemon evil? No, but they're quite underhanded, which as far as the "honorable" Japanese care, it's quite "evil."

Likewise applies to Ghost types. They look like ghosts. They physically behave like ghosts. So whoever thought their type's name decided that they were ghosts.

Well, Shedinja is a dead Pokémon, I think it's a dead Nincada or Ninjask or something..... but all of the other ones are just...ghosts. Not dead Pokémon, just ghost Pokémon.

If you're referring to Ghost-type Pokemon, then they're not "dead" Pokemon. They're just Pokemon with ghost-like qualities.

I thought it was more like its shed skin? Like, Nincada/Ninjask is too awesome that even its shed skin absorbs some of its power, maybe?

No, because then why would there be fewer species of Ghost Pokemon than there are of non-Ghost Pokemon? There'd have to be just one type of Ghost, or a ghost for each species.

Ghost pokemon arent necessarily dead with the exception of the Marowak in the ghost tower in Lavender Town (R/B/FR/LG).

Perhaps in the Pokemon World the tales about ghosts first arouse when someone saw a Ghost-type (probably wasn't called that back then), became very frightened (maybe because of one of its moves), and somehow got it into his mind that it was a dead spirit or something.

I don't know. I mean, there could be like a Growlithe that died & it's ghost later haunts people for some reason, but it wouldn't gain the actual Ghost-typing. Right?

I think the term "ghost" for Ghost-types is merely a descriptor like how some people describe the Cobia as looking like a cross between a catfish and a shark. It does not mean that they actually are ghosts.

Besides if they were ghosts, wouldn't you be able to get a ghost Pokémon of every type (Ghost Tyranitar!)?

I don't think so. If that were the case, from the one for sure true ghost we know of, we wouldn't be able to catch ANY Ghost-type Pokemon, because the Ghost Marowak was uncatchible due to being a true Ghost.

Well, Ghost Pokémon(with the exception of Giratina) are capable of producing offspring in form of Eggs. That seems pretty organic for me.
