I was lucky enough to catch 2, so I start with the basic of the starter pokemon, got my turtwigs and chimchars and piplups, but, the dittos and everythiung else do not seem to like each other.
At least, thats what the day-care man said.

From my experience with G/S/(C), that means no baby Azurill or extra Beldum...

Do I need to give them more time to cozy up, or does my title question make more sense?

If they don't like each other much, that means that they won't give out eggs very often. If they perfer to play with others, they won't give out eggs at all.

i believe that their natures may have something to do with it and if you were attempting to breed two ditto that wont work

sorry this has never happened to me so i may not be the best choice for this advice

Rappak's right. There's no reason that your Ditto shouldn't be mating with Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup... you just need to give it some time (or steps). When they "don't seem to like each other much" it's because they're of different species from the same trainer ID. They'll breed, it just takes longer.

You'll never get a baby Azurill by breeding with Ditto though, because you must use two Marills and have the female hold Sea Incense.

>>>>>>>.> fail on nintendo. why is azurill so hard to get?

It's not really... you can catch one in the Great Marsh, or use Surf on Route 204 to get the Sea Incense, and breed 2 Marill (or Azurmarill, doesn't matter), which you can also catch in the Great Marsh or outside of the Pokemon Mansion.

is there a difference between sea and wave incense? i dont have a sea incense, but do have a wave incense.

Wave Incense only gets you baby Mantyke, not Azurill.

If your breeding with a ditto, you'll always get an egg. If the daycare man in Soleceon town says "YOur pokemon don't like eachother very much" then it will just take longer to get an egg. If you see "Your pokemon prefer to play with other pokemon rather than eachother" they won't breed, but thats not the case for a ditto and other pokemon, unless its a legendary or a pokemon that can't breed.

If your breeding something like a marril to get an azurall, try giving the marril the incense if that fails, give the ditto the incense. If that does not work, as dukeburger said, your going to hae to get a male and female of that pokemon.

Some Pokémon take a lot of steps to hatch so you have to be patient.
It'll take 5355 steps for an egg to appear if they like each other for a Turtwig or Chimchar.
Good luck!

well ti took me forever to hatch my three dratini, 10,000 steps each! if you want a good dratini, you really have to have patience

Look it's NEVER happened to me
"The Two Seem to get along" is what I ALWAYS get with a Ditto look it's probably because the natures DON'T get along (ex: Careful and Impish DON'T get along) check the natres of the pokemon you want to breed then try again if it still doesn't work use a differant Ditto:)

Or a pokemon with the Flame Body/Magma Armor ability in your party to cut the egg steps in half so those 10,000 steps become 5,000.
I use a Slugma to hatch my Eevee eggs all the time.

And as long as the day care man doesn't say "They prefer to play with other pokemon" you'll always get an egg.

If they seem to get along, they are either the same species or have different original trainers. If they don't like each other very much, they have the same trainer and are of different species. I don't remember what it says, but if you have the same species and different OT's (like your Marill and your friend's Marill), eggs are produced the fastest.

Using a different Pokémon of the same species and OT will change nothing, regardless of nature.

im quite surprised the bulbapedia/wiki doesnt have an extensive breeding guide.

i found the sea incense, good stuff.

off to make extra eevees.

Do you need a special incense to breed pokemon into johto babies? I mean, for Azurill and Wynaut and the others you need incenses, but what about pichu and magby and so on?
