Are parents getting bigger, and arguably better, roles in the games with each gen?

Your parents and other parents around you.

In gen 1 and its remakes your mom basically throws you out and doesn't show much concern.
Your rival has no parents on screen, just his grandfather and older sister. There are really no other parents that play a role in it.

In gen 2 and its remakes your mom shows some concern and asks to keep some of your money for safe keeping. She often buys nonsense without asking you, but she's your mom so she can do that.
Elm's a father in the games, and in the remakes you learn who your rivals father is (and he is important).
..I don't know about your psuedo rival though, since I don't own HGSS. But I'm pretty sure that only their grandparents appear.

In gen 3, you have both a father and mother. Your rival has both too, and one of them is a professor.
Your mother is more similar to the first mother then the last one, but your father is a gym leader. Your second rival, Wally, also has parents but he's usually with his uncle and aunt.

In gen 4 your mom is, an apparently formerly retired, coordinator. Your rival has two parents, and one of them is the Battle Tower tycoon. Your father also gets mentioned a few times, and if I recall, it's hinted that your psuedo rivals parents are those scientists inside Rowan's lab.

It seems like parents keep on getting more important roles in the main games. I wonder what that means for future gens..

Anyway, anyone else agree with me?

The pseudo rival in HGSS has what I assume is their father in the ground floor of their house. They do and say nothing of significance.

The parents are getting bigger roles yes, but personally I don't find it better at all. I'd rather be the wonder child from an unknown family then a sheep upon many.

Yes...I rather just ignore it all though

I noticed that too.

Wouldn't it be cool if you parent in BW was a member of the villian team (Maybe as the boss or admin), but you don't find out until later in the game?

Yeah, they're getting bigger roles. Although Johanna never was very important to me since I'm not a coordinator, and Gen II mom is annoying with all those phone calls.

OH I HOPE THATS IN THE BLACK/WHITE GAME!!!!

Yeah, I can see a pattern here, but I don't know what role the Gen III mom played.

It would be very cool if they did that B/W.

That would be awesome. ^_^
The parents have been becoming more and more important, but not enough for me to take real notice of them yet.

I like the parent being villain idea!

Maybe you could have siblings in Later Games?

The parents get bigger roles until Gen IV.

They're getting bigger roles, yes, but they're not all that important. Actually, it just seems a little cliché: that the next Pokémon master is relative of such-and-such.

I remember your dad as a gym leader in Gen 3. I thought that was pretty cool. When I was a kid, my dad would always spare me after I go a higher rank (I was in martial arts as a kid) to see if I got better. I was never able to take him down until I was 19 lol.

I hope they do something like that again.

Being an annoying bug that is neutral toward Pokemon? Being there for you?

Re: Are parents getting bigger, and arguably better, roles in the games with each gen

yeah I agree
especially with 'mom' wasting my money on berries..

Re: Are parents getting bigger, and arguably better, roles in the games with each gen

Yeah I wish the mom in HG/SS would buy stuff thats useful like Full Restores or Max Potions...

Re: Are parents getting bigger, and arguably better, roles in the games with each gen

Yes... I think this is a byproduct of the games themselves becoming deeper and fuller with each generation. Very much a positive thing.

Don't forget that in the 4th Gen remakes they expanded upon your rivals' parents' roles:

Silver now has Giovanni as a father, and Lyra/Ethan's grandparents run the Daycare.

EDIT: Off-topic, but for those of you complaining about the berries thing, that's literally all she buys after a certain point, if I recall. Besides, those berries are dirt-cheap; I defy you to even notice the money lost. Besides, you can always ask your mom to stop saving and that should stop her from spending. If anything, it's a minor annoyance; you can pick up your berries in bulk when it's convenient, and otherwise it wastes 5-10 seconds for you to pick up the phone.

Yes I do agree with your point, but what I'm saying is that she should spend my money on more useful items, like potions, heals etc. Most of the berries she buys is basically useless to most players

Unless you were making Poffins like in D/P
