I was watching the first movie, and Ash said that vikings mostly live in Minnesota, and this got me thinking.

That was a dub addition. I can't particularly think of any lines similar to that one in both the raw and dub.

Team Rocket has broken the fourth wall quite a few times in the dub at least, but those were played as jokes. I kinda doubt anyone in the Pokemon world is aware of "real life".

It's kind of hard to answer this question, I don't think an anime character can be aware of the real world since he doesn't exist to begin with. Awareness is something only living people can do.

That got me fooled as a kid when I saw that scene but yeah that was dub-added as a joke to refer the Minnesota Vikings on account of TR was in that vikings diguise.

i think so because ash and co go to hollywood CA, the minnisota refernce, Scott in battle frontier drives a Ford TBird, team rocket referencing a brake recall when snorlax ties down their balloon in DP (refencing the toyota brake recall)

Those are mostly dub added references though. They like to break the 4th wall a lot as "humor".

Also a dub addition. "Hollywood" is written out in Japanese as Hariuddo (ハリウッド), but the name of the city they go to in the Pocket Monsters episode is Horiuddo (ホリウッド). The cities are meant to be similar, but they're not the same.

In "The March of the Exeggutor Squad", Melvin the Magician wanted to star on Broadway in the original Japanese dub. However, since that is mostly a place for musicals and not magicians, 4Kids changed it to Las Vegas.
