hi i have been thinking about it are pokemon being less unique in new versions
i was very fascinated with good old 1st generation pokemons but know they seem like being made on the same basics like i dont find a lot of difference between rattata and zigzagoon except the looks seems like the same basic same with blaziken infernape andthre are no new types for a long time wat do u all think?

Take a look at the first generation.

Psyduck, Ditto, and Kangaskhan are pretty big examples of unoriginal designs.

I think people use "originality" as an excuse to say that they just hate a certain pokemon for no good reason. True, some pokemon seem to be redundant, but they are at least designed differently. Besides, nature itself has many different versions of the same animal, so why can't pokemon? Before you say "Because it looks lazy," I will remind you that this redundancy occurs within the first gen. As for pokemon possessing the same type alignments, I don't think I need to tell you about that. Besides, I think I think even the pokemon that seem really similar on the surface are really different deep underneath. They could have different stats, different moves, and even different abilities. No, I do not believe that pokemon have become any more or less original.

i didnt say i hate them did i they just dont appeal to me a lot whatever thats my thinking i really think im speaking of just general pokemon not about their stats moves etc and dont u think some new type should be introduced like maybe a rare element and i am still waiting with a pokemon of fire/water type combo or fighting dark one or is thre a pokemon with dark/fighting combo already im not sure but those would be very unique and my favourtites also based on an animal like turtle breatrhing fire or a flying tiger kinda that would be cool

Yes, some of the Pokemon do look recycled. This is evident when you compare Ru/Sa to some of the original 150. There's almost 500 Pokemon so it's sometimes hard not to come up with something that may look a bit similar to previous ones.

For me, I don't really mind the similarities because, as Sceptile stated, this occurs all the time in real life. What I do worry about is the generation gap in terms of their designs.

I've been noticing with every new generation, the designs of some Pokemon are far more advance and complex than the previous ones, nevermind the original 150.

Take Dialga and Palkia for example and compare it to any of the original 150. Although they still have a "Pokemon style" to them, they look far more advance than the simplistic 150.

they always come up with new type combos. Lucario, Giratina and Abomasnow spring to mind. Not to mention the dozens of others with unique typing.

My arguement would be the complete opposite that generations are becoming too diferent.

By the way Torcoal is a fire breathing turtle.

Unoriginal, yes, but this is asking for the uniqueness.

I actually find it unfair to compare any Pokemon to first gen in being more unique since the first generation had nothing to compare it to.

As for these patterns in "every generation gettign a different type of ratata" type thing, blame those people who complain about change.

Of course, when you actually look past the fact that they are normal type rodents, you will see that they have a different battle style, and the concepts behind them are completely different.

Not really, no. Sure, every Generation has its 'Rattata' or 'Pidgey'. But, to be honest, we need those Pokemon. The 'Rattata' is often used as a HM slave and possibly an early game battler, and the 'Pidgey' is used as a battler (for a while, anyway)/HM Fly slave.

There's also the weak bug, the weak fish, the 'Cute Base 600 Legend' (okay, there's two in the 4th Gen [Manaphy and Shaymin], which breaks the tradition), and the 'Electric-Type rodent'.

It's like a tradition of sorts, remember how there's always a Forest that the player must go through before or after the first Gym...

An the first Gym is had always Rock-Pokemon, except in Johto, where there is not much of a forest either. And in Shinou there is a cave instead. The first forest is Hakutai Forest to the second Gym (or was it the third?).

I think is repetitive that Bashaamo and Goukazaru have the same Types, but their stats are different, since Bashaamo has high Atk and Spec. Atk and Goukazaru high Atk and Speed. It seems that Goukazaru was made because Bashaamo was a kind of failure or something, at least for these new rules about Special and Physical (Bashaamo has not much need of its high Spec. Atk anymore, since Fire-Type can be Physical).

Johto did have this weak Normal-Type Pokemon along with Poppo/Pidgey, but not with the high Speed stat as the others. And Bippa has also different stats, but it's still an annoying Pokemon, because you encounter it almost everywhere!

And doesn't there need to be Pokemon that looks a little alike. Else there would be the same species of Pokemon in too many regions. All regions need a kind of common bird Pokemon and the first Pokemon you encounter should not be too strong, if you're a beginner. And in both Houen and Kantou you can EV train your Speed (and Attack) stat at the start, which is a good stat to train in the beginning.

As long as they make sure the Pokemon doesn't look alike, have the same Type(s) and the same stats at once, I think it's okey.

Well, NOW they are unoriginal, back then they were fresh. (and I still love Psyduck to death)

Some pokemon are getting rehashed, yes. But there's still some originality... isn't Luxray the first pokemon based off a lion?

There is already a Pokemon based off a lion. It's Entei (or at least it looks like a lion), but they look very different anyway, even if they are based upon the same animal.

There's a limit to what people will recognize, and with almost as many Pokemon as moves it woudl be nearly impossible to make similar sets. And some type-combos are just liked, like Blaziken was popular, so they were probably all like "Dude, we should, like, make this monkey, expect its more like a ninja thing than a monkey, and it's butt is on fire! And it's a fighting type! Because everyone, like, liked Blaziken, you know?!"
"Mi, you're fired."
you know, like that.

I remember...

I remember seeing a thread like this on the old Nintendo forums (R.I.P) what I have to say in no.

I don't know why this always comes up as a reason. I'm sure if Infernape was not a starter, this would be less of an issue. Of course, upon closer inspection, one can see that in every new generation, atleast one Pokemon copy the type combo of one Pokemon from the previous generation.

Feraligatr stayed a pure water type, just as Blastoise did. Sceptile stayed as a pure grass type, just liek Meganium did, and to keep on with this pattern, they had to choose the next type that they did not use, Fire. Since Blaziken was part Fighting, Infernape too became part fighitng if we were to follow this sequence.

And you know, most of the people (not accusing you) who complain about Infernape's typing being unoriginal complain about Empoleon's typing not being Water Ice.

Infernape and Blaziken seem different enough, atleast aesthetically.

Yes, that's what I meant. Even if they have the same Types, the stats are very different (and the attacks they learn), making them very different Pokemon anyway. But I wonder why they didn't make one of the others Fighting Type. Like Water/Fighting, but I guess Fire and Fighting match each other quiet well. Grass/Fighting and Water/Fighting does already exist, but not as starters. I also wonder why Pocchama is not Ice, because its confusing. It really looks like an Ice Pokemon. Maybe they did that to make it more difficult. You could be fooled that it is an Ice-Type and the game's a little harder that way. I don't know. It's like Lizardon looks like Dragon but is not, but that's because they can't have three Types and Lizardon already has two.

I personally think the monsters are getting a lot more interesting as we go from generation to generation.

Design-wise the newer guys seem much more original than anything gens 1 and 2 delivered. Seriously, have you taken a look at thinngs like Rayquaza and Dialga? Compare them to Mewtwo and Rugia. >_> Or Flygon and Lizardon, it's obvious more creativity was added to Flygon, Lizardon is just resembles your typical dragon. =/

I like the new Pokemon design better, but the old anime is still better. My favorite Pokemon is Darkurai, but that doesn't make the 10th movie my favorite. I still like the first one and the radio/CD drama that was a part of the story of the 1st movie. The animations and drawing in that movie was better done and the story is better. I know the story and plot of Mewtwo Strikes Back is not original, but it's still the best of all the PM movies. I would like to see something like that with the newer Pokemon. I'm disappointed in the new anime. But I like the design of the 4th gen Pokemon.
