I have always been a fan of the special stadium battle field: Grass, Water, Rock and Ice. But they are rarely used. Water battle field have been shown in all water gyms and rock field have been used in all rock type gyms plus Byron but I'm not sure if Pryce had an ice field. So are they underused in Pokemon Battle clubs and Pokemon trainer school and the like don't use special battle field. Plus their is the Rock and Water combo field and the desert field that were only used once. In the Sinnoh League they used grass twice and rock once and nothing. I don't know what do you think? I think they are underused.

I wouldn't say they are underused. Though I'd actually like to see more variety. Fields playing around with the concept of fire/lava, electrcity, thick forests ect. To give further advantages and disadvantages in battle. I was actually thinking about this not long ago and how it'd apply to the fields the Elite Four have in the games, having the main stadium change to fit their type specialties and resemble those in the games would be freaking awesome.

I made up a bunch of fields over the years to list a few crystal, swamp, cave, canyon, forest and my favorite PILLAR. Do you like them?

I would agree that they're probably underused, but it's also not really something I'd care for them to add. They've been making battles more and more innovative over the years, and just adding different scenery wouldn't add anything really. Them battling in a mess of trees would probably be harder for them to animate. Pokemon battles aren't something that span huge areas, it's not a game of Halo where they duck and hide behind things really. Plainish soccer fields have been working out just fine. If pokemon did span large areas and they were running around and stuff, that'd be sick, but they stay really within the same place. They use large boulders and water every so often, and that's about as far as I see them going.

I think they're underused, as well. I would enjoy more unique battlefields during gym battles, ones where the trainer can use the surroundings to their advantage; an example of this would be Ash commanding Chimchar to skate across the ice during his DP gym battle against Candice to avoid Abomasnow's attacks.

I also enjoy water battlefields, such as the one used during Ash's gym battle against Juan in Hoenn. They're more entertaining when both Pokémon are Water-types, but if the writing is done well enough, it's not completely necessary; an example of a good battle where both Pokémon didn't need to be Water-types would be Ash's league battle against Katie during the Ever Grande Conference.

I, for one, preferred whenever the leagues included diverse battlefields. Kanto was my favorite in that regard because it had trainers battle on four different types (rock, grass, water, ice) during the preliminaries. If this was implemented in a league nowadays, the battles would be even more lovely.
