Are the writers trying to stick more to the games this time?

I've noticed that the writers haven't really made up many locations for Sinnoh as they did in previous generations. Is that because Sinnoh is too big to begin with and has as many cities as they need, or are they trying to stick more to where the anime's roots are?

They're also focusing more on game characters and they actually seem to have some presence this time around (Shirona, Ginga-dan, etc.). Why do you think that this is?

For once they have seriously cool places and plots to work with.

(and still Maxim would say this isn't enough~)

I've noticed they skipped over Rotom from Eterna Forest, but that might be because the writers knew about its new forms in Platinum are are saving it for a later time.

Didn't you need the National Dex to even "see" Rotom in the Eterna Forest Mansion? So they didn't really skip it, in that case.

Since the group will be travelling back west again for the 7th gym, they might've decided to save it until then.

yeah they're trying to stick witht the game u can tell by watchin the other season that most plot are original while now they're like sticking with the games.

The thread is clearly talking about game locations and characters, not mechanics. Please don't go off-topic.

When you have a game that doesn't really have much of a storyline to go on, you need to expand upon it with the anime.

I... wouldn't exactly say that they are. I mean, in regards to the earlier D/P season, they skipped Mars' invasion of the windworks, Jupiter was skipped over in Eterna City, as was the Galactic building stationed there. they added in a Museum that wasn't even present in the games yet, Cyrus's meeting in Spear Mountain's caverns was skipped over, the Maze was moved, they had a (sort-of) anime-only town in Miya's introduction episode (it was sunk when making a dam, but it was still there.), and possibly some others I might have Missed.

Umm, Beutifly just got hit by shockwave while drenched with water...and lived.

How is that relevant? at all?

I think that the writers are sticking more closely to the games plot this time, I mean in Kanto we had Gyms being faced out of order, no mention of Silph Co., at least here in Sinnoh they are making an attempt to include things from the game

Actually, they skipped out on that maze thing, and They did switch up the order of the Gym leaders (Maylene, Crasher Wake, and Fantina all got switched up, thus having Fantina being third, Maylene being fourth, and Crasher Wake being fifth.). Even taking D/P's release into account, they still had Ash lose against her, thus making Fantina the First gym leader in the games since Sabrina and Erika to have her out of order in the anime.

They gym order wasn't switched... The anime is following Diamond and Pearl, not Platinum. And what maze thing are you talking about?

The one where you meet Miya. Also, Following D/P or not, they are still switching up the order. Plus, the mere fact that Cyrus was encountered at Celestic town trying to search for both orbs hints that they are going to follow the Platinum approach.

I don't see how because in Diamond and Pearl, you couldn't battle Fantina until after the whole Psyduck roadblock and Celestic town event.

Plus it makes sense that Cyrus is looking for both orbs. If he was only looking for one, it would side with either Diamond or Pearl's storyline. But this is Diamond AND Pearl thus Cyrus is getting both orbs.

Nevermind the fact that neither orb is used as a plot device in any of the games...

Weedle Mchairybug was referring to the fact that Cyrus doesn't even appear in Celestic Town in Diamond and Pearl, but does in Platinum. However, I would not take that to mean that the anime is trying to follow Platinum's storyline.

As I recall, the games usually allow for some level of sequnce-breaking midway through.

You still have to explain this 'order' thing. In DP, you pass through Hearthome but are unable to fight Fantina until until after Wake. The anime's stayed loyal to DP in that respect, bypassing Hearthome to Veilstone, then Pastoria.

Platinum switched up the order of the GLs, not the anime. Could the writers have even known that the Leaders would get a switch-up by Maylene? Sooner still, the episode they reached Hearthome the first time?

They could have had Ash win against Fantina in the episode she was first introduced, since that episode was just barely before Platinum's OFFICIAL release date. That way, they can still keep it true to not only Diamond and Pearl, but to Platinum as well, as Platinum technically didn't exist before the Saturday of that week.

Except you do see Cyrus in Celestic Town in D/P as well at Pt. You see him in the cave when you look at the pictures of Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit.
