More simply put, is there, say, an NU division at the championships and such? Because if I ever get that good, I want to be able to use Pokemon that, well, I want to use, without being outclassed simply because the other players have higher-tier Pokes.

No, there is one VGC tier. If you just want to use stuff you like then I don't advice attending anyway as others will be playing to win.

Like Takaki said, there is an official VGC (short for Video Game Championships) tier for championships and official events hosted by Nintendo. This thread on Smogon outlines the rules that were set for the VGC 2012 competition, and the banlist for it. However, if you think you can build a competitive team from your favourite Pokemon, and it follows those rules outlined above, I say go for it. I have seen people do well in OU with Pokemon from lower tiers before, so make a team, get some practice with it, and go and win! Sure, winning might be a bit harder, but it's not impossible, and what fun are battles that are easy? Plus, it will be all the more glorious a victory when you win with Pokemon that are deemed a lot weaker than your opponents. And even if you lose, it's still a learning experience. You got to experience a proper tournament, and you might pick up some weaknesses on your team/strategy that you can improve. :)

@Summer Camp ; In future don't make a thread just to ask a question. Ask a Moderator or post in the Simple Questions thread, or even the BC chat thread if you need one answered.
