I'm going to train an Ariados, and I plan on giving it an impish nature. Now I'm thinking about giving it the ability insomnia, and having it put down field moves like sticky web and toxic spikes. I've also thought about giving it the ability swarm, have it hold a weakness policy or muscle brace, with the moves: substitute, mega horn, hone claws. Now I know Ariados isn't the best Pokemon in the world, but I like it, and I want to train one, so this is what I came up with, I just need help finishing it's training plan. So any tips on training an Ariados, would be greatly appreciated.

Ariados @ Focus Sash/Black Sludge
Insomnia
Adamant
248 HP/252 Atk/8 Def
~Sticky Web
~Toxic Spikes
~Sucker Punch
~X-Scissor/Poison Jab

This is Ariados's best shot in standard play. A set like you're thinking of will not be effective because Ariados lacks the bulk to pull it off - even with 252 HP/252 Def and an Impish nature, it will still be OHKOed by many, many common threats.

252 Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ariados: 386-456 (112.2 - 132.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Alakazam Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ariados: 456-536 (132.5 - 155.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Aerilate Mega Pinsir Return vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ariados: 446-528 (129.6 - 153.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ariados: 458-542 (133.1 - 157.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ariados in Sun: 770-908 (223.8 - 263.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Volcarona Fiery Dance vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ariados: 444-524 (129 - 152.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

4 SpA Rotom-H Overheat vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ariados: 440-518 (127.9 - 150.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Mega Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ariados: 386-456 (112.2 - 132.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ariados: 359-424 (104.3 - 123.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The list goes on far past that, and expands even further if you include Stealth Rock into the calculations. So yeah, defensive is definitely non-viable. If you insist on bulky Ariados, then set-up sweeper is definitely not the way to go. Ariados's only niche is that it gets both Sticky Web and Toxic Spikes, as Galvantula completely outclasses it as a Sticky Web setter and everything else that gets the move outclasses it as a T-Spikes setter, and pretty much every Pokémon in the game outclasses it as a tank or sweeper or wallbreaker. I'd say that Ariados's best shot at a "defensive" set would be:

Ariados @ Black Sludge/Focus Sash
Insomnia
Impish
248 HP/252 Def/8 Sp Def
~Sticky Web
~Toxic Spikes
~Swagger
~Foul Play

If your opponent gets unlucky, you can set up SW and both layers of T-Spikes. Then maybe you can keep Swaggering switch ins and if you get extraordinarily lucky you might even get a Foul Play off. But really, the first set outclasses this one as it can at least hit something with Sucker Punch before dying pathetically, as Ariadoses are wont to do. :p

Thanks. I'm building a bug type team, and I want to put my two favorite Pokemon of all time on it, Araidos and Galvatula, and Galvatula I know would be easier to find tips on training, so I first took focus on Ariados. With that said, I know having two Pokemon that are close in capabilities is bad, but I'm hard set on having them both on my team, and confident that I can find a way to make it work! So thank you, once more.

Ariados also gets Megahorn now, which will do a lot more than X-Scissor on the rare occasion you actually get to attack.

Anyone got any info on IVs? I'm guessing that I want high IVs in attack, HP, and defense.
