If you didnt know, today is the date for the launch of NASA's Artemis II mission, where 4 astronauts will board the SLS and launch, headed for the Moon which they will fly around this evening around 6:24pm EDT. This marks the furthest humans have traveled in space and it has been over 50 years since we have gone to the moon, while they arent landing,I would assume they are going to be doing observation and such.

I will end up having to view it later due to work, but I find it awesome as I love rockets, space and NASA since childhood and enjoy learning about it and keeping up with NASA's missions.

Are you watching the launch as well?? Any of you enjoy spaceflight, astronomy, and things like that?

Coming after the launch for this...

Genuinely an incredible moment to witness in my life. I was hyped all the way up until the launch, but when the ignition started my stomach dropped and I think realisation set in a LOT more. For lack of a better term was such a holy shit moment. I know we've sent many people up to the ISS for example and I've watched a fair few of these launches, but this just felt completely different. I will be keeping a close eye for the next 10 days. The astronauts seem like awesome people, their final messages being heard live on the feed was great, why they are doing it in a short sentence. The core stage seperation was beautiful. I hope this all bodes well for the future. I'm not good at the science stuff behind space, but space as a whole is brilliant. I think those 40 minutes the astronauts will have with zero contact back home will be something to experience, and I envy them for this. But they're far braver than me and I don't envy the rest of it hahaha!

I loved it. It seemed like the launch itself went beautifully and we got quite some views. I hear there was an issue with the toilet and some other stuff, but they were able to get that resolved. One thing that is really cool is that they were allowed to bring their personal smartphones with them and also given new iPhones. This enables them to get a lot of pictures and videos from where they are they can share when they get back. And thats going to be something considering the progress in tech of these devices and in general since the Apollo program.

Rather than make a new thread I thought I would show just a couple of pictures the Artemis crew has gotten so far! There's way more than these but these two seem to be the clearest of Earth and our Moon respectively:

These pictures are incredible,Im just amazed. Tomorrow, they are reaching and flying around the moon and Im not missing that stream. Its really going to be something and I would bet a lot of viewers will tune in and watch,as this mission is getting a lot of the public's interest and attention which is fantastic to see. These Astronauts are like the coolest people ever right now.

I've been following along since before the launch, had the stream on in the background a ton. I love space stuff and it's an extremely cool thing to be witnessing in real time. More than anything just happy we're pushing forward again after so long since Apollo.
