When working on a Luvdisc picture I drew, I suddenly realized how many times I was using the knowledge my artlessons gave me, essecially about shading. So I was wondering, do other people have this the same way, or do they feel artlessons as an obstangle when drawing, like I felt at first, or are there here people who draw without any artlessons at all? please reply :)

Well, I've been in an art class, but I never use the stuff my art teacher taught me, because I've learned the only helpful lessons from experience. I usually experiment with things until I'm pleased with them, and then just go from there.

I've never had art lessons. I practiced enough, so i'm pretty good. Really drawing is about understanding light source, so you know where to shade. It helps me make a drawing look alive. Also reading books isn't conventional, but it helped train me to draw things from memory by picturing what I read. Just take in everything around you. Really all I can say is practice. ^^;

On things like Photoshop, I just throw stuff together, but I know how to mix colors well. A hint is that an opposite of a color will always go with it. It's not hard to explain, just express your imagination.

I took art in grade 8. I hated it. I hated being told what to draw and how to draw it. No freedom whatsoever. We weren't even allowed to draw anime/cartoons! Yes... I never took art again and never will.

I take some art lessons on occasion...well, once a week or 2 weeks, since my next door neighbor is an art teacher. I really don't like school art classes; they're too restricted and don't really let you experiment and do your own thing...instead, you're stuck following a curriculum. That's why I take out-of-school lessons. I voted for "they've really helped me" because I really have learned a lot from them...unfortunately, I don't have a scanner (or any knowledge of computer drawing), so I can't share any of my work... :(
