I see these posts somewhat frequently and I apologize for not answering this but I'm curious on what exactly the point is for coming up with ship names? Like is it for the purpose of creating tags for fanfic sites or?

It's more tradition than anything. Fanfic sites don't even use the names lol

I don't really get it either, but if people like it then I suppose it can't hurt

Perhaps things have changed since I was heavily involved in shipping, but last I checked Human x Pokémon ship names weren't exactly something people really wanted to get involved with anyway. Particularly as Shipping became more associated in people's minds with romantic relationships, to the exclusion of friendships and other types of relationships.

most people in my social circle don't really care for human x pokemon ships, and theyre definitely not my cup of tea for sure but the topic is nuanced enough that i just let people ship what they want and avoid the stuff i dont like.

as for why name ships, i just find it fun to give my ships names personally, plus it makes it easier to search for them on google and social media.

Basically, just for fun. Besides, there are several name experts here, so why not a guide on how to create proper names? Haha.
