I know there's been times when Ash has forgotten series events; heck, we all make fun of him for it. But the problem is that I can't think of any specific examples (it's late, can't think, plus my memory is *equally* bad). Anyone remember some?

Ooh....

Great idea for a thread, Blackjack!! ^_^

Anyway, this is the first one that popped into my head.

In the episode "Date Expectations", there's a scene where Ash tells Pikachu to use Thunderbolt on Donphan. Apparently, he forgot that Ground types are immune to Electric attacks.

Oh wait, nevermind. That's not a series event....

That was just a case of "Ash not remembering type weaknesses/resistances".

I misunderstood the question, lol.

This will take some thinking. At the moment, even I can't think of anything that would qualify as series events he's forgotten.

*is officially stumped*

Technically, it was still a Phanpy at Oak's lab at that point.

He seems to forget what Flint told him about Brock's family from a couple of comments in Hoenn (Having a Wailord of a Time, A Fan with a Plan) ...or he's insensitive - it could go either way there.

There's the events of the movies. (He obviously has an excuse for the first one.) Brock apparently has an outstanding memory, though, since he remembers seeing Lugia in the Orange Islands in The Mystery is History despite not even being there!

Yes, yes he is just that awesome. ;D

Well, Ash "forgot" about having to pay Misty back for her bike several times, I think, but...

Ash is the one character who didn't forget about that. (Clefairy Tales ...I think) He still has emotional scarring. (Get the Show on the Road, A Ruin with a View)

Then why did Misty keep reminding hi-

Oh, right, it's Misty.

Ash said purposely letting a Pokémon was bad in A Bite to Remember, yet he let the Burmy beat his Pokémon.

How about during the little Articuno mini-arc in Johto. Ash said they've never seen a real one before, despite seeing one in the Orange Islands during the events of the second movie.

Wasn't there an incident about seeing (and using his dex on) a Seadra then very shortly thereater having no clue what a Seadra was and needing to use his dex on it again?

Believe the first Seadra encounter was at the League and the second at the first OI gym.

I think the reason they had Ash scan old Pokemon again is because they had no second character to do it.

If you noticed in AG and D/P, they usually have May and Dawn scan the old Pokemon nowadays which makes a hell of a lot more sense. They couldn't do this before because we had no co-starring beginning trainer in Kanto-Johto.

You have to remember though Max was just wanting the poochyena to evolve just so it could be a mightyena, Cheryl had a goal backing her which is why Ash probably helped out, kinda like the paras episode back in early kanto.

About the whole Ash/May/whoever scanning a Pokemon that was already scanned before, I think, besides doing it to learn more about a certain Pokemon, they do it mainly so that kids new to the show can learn what that Pokemon is, because not everyone has watched the show from the very beginning and/or played the games.

What about Ash forgetting about Pigeot? He`s been back near Viridan I don`t know how many times and still has not gone back for it.

Because the writers doomed Pidgeot. Its also pretty pointless now that he has Swellow and Staravia. Swellow is the strongest flying type Ash ever had, and by the end of D/P I'm sure he'll have a Staraptor as well.

How about how in Kanto, how Ash had to use his Pokedex on Growlithe THREE times in three different episodes? ....I love this kid. XD

What about when Kiyo (from A Tyrogue Full of Trouble) mentioned he was training for the P1 Grand Prix, and Ash acted like he'd never heard of it before?

Then, there's all those times when Ash sees a Pokemon and knows what it is without checking Dexter, and when he sees it again, he has no idea what it is. My favorite example of this was in Round One -- Begin, when he saw Mandy's Seadra. He said, "Seadra?" then proceeded to scan it. Just a few episodes later, in Fit to be Tide, Cissy sent out her Seadra. Upon seeing it, Ash exclaimed, "What is that?!" and scanned it again, despite the fact that it was just under ten episodes later.

Scanning for reminder information is alright (he did a Magikarp in a DP episode) but the Seadra example is definately a good one.

Going on about it wasn't to remind him, more to make sure he didn't forget. And it worked. In a pre-Viridian Gym episode the final scene had Ash trying to stop Brock remember why they were always arguing only for Misty to suddenly remember anyway.

Just because he doesn't go back for it doesn't mean he has forgotten it. He mentioned it in Fighting Flyer with Fire but Pidgeot presumably still has a job to do.

What about Ash forgetting about Brock's father in "Having a Wailord of a time?" This was the ep in very early Hoenn where a wild Torchic evolved into Combusken and Ash and co. tried to trick May into thinking her Torchic evolved.

Brock tells the group how Onix was a present for his 10th birthday from his father, and after the flashback is over Ash says something like, "You must have a really cool Dad" followed by Brock's sigh, "Yeah, I guess."

Flint told Ash his whole backstory in ep 5, yet Ash seemingly forgets about it in early Hoenn.
