With the completion of the Diamond and Pearl, Best Wishes and recently the XY anime, Ash has got some pretty powerful Pokémon under his belt. So I want to ask the question, what is Ash's best Pokémon?

Now there are different ways to tackle this question.
  1. Strongest
  2. Personality
  3. Development from catching/hatching to league
  4. Usage
The list goes on.

In my opinion, I think his best has to be Charizard. It is one of the strongest, has a great personality and has evolved from being scared as Charmander to be not responsive as a Charmeleon and Charizard to being a Pokemon that Ash can rely on. He uses Charizard a lot for example in the Battle Pyramid. I know this is probably a common answer.

I will be interested to hear your answers!

I would suggest to give more votes for evey generation.
7 generations 7 votes, to see not only the strongest but the strong ones in each.
Seperate poll for every kind of type he catched. Like seperate for water pokemon, seperate for grass. More polls would be needed.

I'll agree, it is a overly broad question.

Pikachu in every category, essentially by default.
Almost not worth asking the question...

1. For his strongest, I would have to say Charizard. Charizard has proven himself against strong Pokémon from named characters that have a type advantages against him, as well as against Legendary Pokémon with his only relatively bad loss being directly due to Trainer error. I also think that Charizard is one of Ash's most versatile Pokémon due to having powerful ranged attacks as well as being able to fly and being no slouch in speed and maneuverability, either.

2. For personality, I would say Pikachu but mainly because he's the one we've seen the most. A lot of Ash's Pokémon have a great deal of personality, such as Charizard, Sceptile, Bayleef, Snivy, etcetera. It would probably be easier to list the ones without any real personality. It's just that we've seen Pikachu the most (i.e. the entire series) so he gets the nod for this category.

3. For development, from catching to league, I would say it's a three-way tie between Pikachu, Charizard, and Infernape. Pikachu is a given since he's been with Ash since the beginning of the series. However, both Charizard and Infernape have developed a lot as well, with Charizard upon evolving, being disobedient before growing out of it and becoming one of Ash's best Pokémon friends and strongest team members. As for Infernape, we have his initially being a member of Paul's team, with the harsh treatment he endured there, to him coming to Ash and developing into a Monferno and eventually into an Infernape while also training to be able to control Blaze.

4. For usage, I would go with Pikachu again simply because Pikachu has been with Ash from the beginning and has been used so often and in every League Ash has taken part in.

Overall, I would say that Charizard is Ash's best Pokémon because of his consistent battle performance and the fact that he and Ash do share a strong bond, even if it took a while for that bond to form. Pikachu, however, is a close second due to having been with Ash for so long and also due to the fact that when he's on, he's one of Ash's strongest Pokémon, one of the two (along with Charizard) who has beaten a Legendary Pokémon on his own.

Bulbasaur. It defeated several stronger, fully evolved Pokémon (that had no type disadvantages), and has a very motherly nature. It cares about others, and wants to help and protect fellow Pokémon, which is a strength on its own. It also showed a great deal of courage when it decided not to evolve, despite what the Ivysaurs and Venusaur thought.

I feel like it's really underrated.

Bulbasaur is really underrated and it's personality and battle skills are great especially not evolved as you've said. I understand why you've chosen Bulbasaur nono ;)
