Which one do you like better?

Which one would defeat the other in battle?

Discuss any other similarities or differences...etc.


I would say that if Staraptor's cry wasn't so godawful, I would lean towards it easily. It has more big wins that I can think of off the top of my head and just seems stronger. But yea the cry bothers me that much.

Anyways, what do you guys think?
 
what about swellow? anyway, i pick pidgeot even tho staraptor battles more. pidgeot was mainly used to fly around and search for stuff but i still like it better.
 
You know, some of us watch the dub and will no longer be surprised that Staravia evolves when it happens, thanks to the thread title.

And Pidgeot, definitely. Staraptor's a better Pokémon in the games, but as for the show, if two things are as similar as these birds, I'd go with the original.
 
Staraptor is stronger than Pidgeot based on what we've seen.

Pidgeotto lost against Brock's Geodude, it more or less defeated Misty's Starmie, and it beat a Rhydon in Viridian...but that's it aside from taking out Fearow.

Staraptor is far more impressive, both visually in battle and in terms of battle screentime.
 
It's been awhile since I saw Kanto, but I feel Mukuhawk has a better personality. I also love that Close Combat attack. Finally an attack that's actually kinda violent.

Considering all the bird jokes I figured it'd be a landslide toward him.

Anyway, it's hard to tell, because, like other said, Pidgeot didn't get to do much. On the other hand, none of the birds really had a personality or anything, so it's kind of hard to choose a favorite. I'm surprised why this thread wasn't Pidgeot vs. Swellow vs. Staraptor, because Swellow also got to battle much more, while Pidgeot's best moment was the episode where it evolved, and it didn't do much anything apart from that.

Oh, right. Being a newbie and all, it's hard to tell...

Staying on that topic, I'm very surprised, just by browsing through YouTube alone, that Pidgeot and Butterfree are always being praised for some reason, even though they didn't do much anything. But I guess it's all that "the show started sucking after the original series!!!"-junk.

Everything from Kanto always gets blind praise in the fandom, even if things from later on are handled much better.

Part of it has to do with nostalgia, part of it is that they're not familiar enough with the later arcs, and part of it is just fanboyism.

I mean I love the Kanto saga as much as the next person, but not everything from that arc was handled well.
 
Obviously Staraptor, as it is much more competent in battle, and has two great attacks. Besides, he actually kept it in its final stage for more than one episode.
 
Me? I'd prefer Staraptor because Staraptor in all its stages collectively had more battle airtime than Pidgeot did, and that Close Combat attack is very impressive; it's nothing Pidgeot can even do. And Staraptor has more of a personality than Pidgeot did, especially when it was Staravia. Also, Ash has obtained all three members of Starly line, but not so for Pidgey: he caught Pidgeot when it was Pidgeotto, not Pidgey. Even if Swellow made the poll, I am still going Staraptor because Swellow didn't have too much personality, as a Taillow or a Swellow, (at least I think I recall that), and even Swellow does not match up to Staraptor in terms of Close Combat.
 
Muku, because Kanto-birdie never really stood out to me. And plus, Muku is awesome ;-)
 
The Chuck Norris of the birding pokemon....Starraptor! I like Pidgeot, but Starraptors better IMO. Now if we had Swellow in this, It would win, but since not, Starraptor for me.
 
I might be also be somewhat biased because I've never seen Staraptor in action, only Starly and Staravia (again, yay spoilers), while I saw everything Pidgeot did including its big episode.
 
^Same here. I prefer Pidgeot too. Not that I don't like Staraptor, Pidgeot is just more cooler IMO.
 
Pidgeot is by far better IMO just because I am an old-school fangirl.

Its obvious Ash's Staraptor is the better battler and gets more battles on the air, but I don't care. Pidgeot is sweet!

And Sleet, if you are this afraid of spoilers, you probably shouldn't be on the anime forum...
