Apologies if a thread like this already exists, i'm sure it probably does.

Anyway, Ash's Dad is only mentioned once in the anime, all the way back in the second episode. He was supposed to have also gone on an adventure. So it got me thinking, do you think he should make an anime début some point in the future? If so, what should his role be?

He was also mentioned in DP138 or so, where we actually got a look at him (with the face obscured, of course).

I dunno about him making a proper debut. I'd like to hear more about how he figured into Ash's past, but he doesn't need to actually show up for that to happen, so... I guess it's fine if he just mostly stays a mystery.

Do you remember anymore of this episode. As i do not remember anything like this. Unless of course it was removed from the dub, which is likely

We don't even know that was Ash's father. It was just a flashback to Ash as a kid and a man with a Rapidash. And Ash didn't say the word father in the episode, I just checked the Japanese version, so he could be anyone.

Anyway, back to the main topic, I think Ash's father should just be a very powerful trainer traveling. Not a Champion or anything. Seems cooler to me. And of course, if they were to meet, Ash should lose and be completely crushed by him :3 Ok, maybe not crushed, but Ash shouldn't win.

Should he show up? Definitely. He's just so mysterious, maybe even unnecessarily so. I seriously don't mind mystery, as long as it's visibly shaping up to be something epic. And this isn't. Considering the show seems to promote family and togetherness a bit, it's kinda weird for him to be MIA.

Where is he? What's he doing? Why is almost never mentioned? I'd love for him to show up so all these questions would be answered.

Though, I've no problem with him just being an ordinary guy, not a villainous team leader however cool that would surely be or a champion or whatever. But, an explanation is imperative, or some sort of reasoning. You can't just have him be gone for the vast majority of Ash's journey and pretend that's normal. He's his father.

I have a feeling that it's still some time before this actually happens, though.

The ultimate champion. Unbeatable champion. Their clash should be the final fight in pokemon series.

Its hard to say without knowing that much about his dad. I think it would be cool if his dad was a recurring trainer that ash kept bumping into without realising it was his dad. But we dont know how strong the relationship between ash and his dad is so how do we know if ash could recognise his dad.

If not I think he should be like a future ash. a man who went on a journey as a trainer and ended up as a good pokemon mater or something like that.

All we know about his dad is that he also went on an adventure like Ash. And it took him 4 days to reach Viridian City from Pallet Town.

But i think the lack of knowledge of his Dad leaves the door open for almost any possibility. But i like the idea of him being a recurring trainer who Ash doesn't recognize straight away (It's been over 15 years since they last saw each other let us not forget)

But Ash is only 10. :p

I get the feeling his father will be somehow connected to the Ho-oh Ash always follows.
Haha, that reminds me of an interview with a storyboard artist from the show. They asked him about that, but the specific question was whether Ho-oh was Ash's father. Of course he just laughed. He said that Ho-oh is basically just a plot devise to keep Ash moving.

I hate it when they do that, just throw in lazy plot devices to get them moving, then just leaving a hole in the plot, and forgetting about them hoping the public are dumb enough to forget, like the GS Ball, it's insulting!

I always thought Ash's Dad had died (maybe with or without Ash and Delia's knowledge) and was resurrected into Ho-oh (a phoenix) hence Ash's English name being Ash, because a Phoenix rises from the Ash. Think the Japanese writers may have informed the 4Kids to name him that, because they planned to use it, then just forgot about it.

I don't think so, as the anime was originally planned to only run for a year or so

Well when 4kids started dubbing the series had been running in Japan for over a year already. Also however they planned to end the series clearly never got used.
