I was just watching the English versions directors commentary of Spell of the Unown, and they said that the Japanese producers had told them that more would be learned about Ash's dad in season five. I was just wondering if this ever happened (in the form of an off-hand remark)? Or was season five potentially referring to the saga for Gen 5?

Granted, they also said that Ash's Noctowl evolved from his HootHoot (?), but I was only wondering if Ash's dad has ever been mentioned (not including the first episode)

I remember hearing that Japan doesn't separate the series into seasons. They could have just said seasons since the dubs divide the eps or it could be a misunderstanding or something else.

Anyone else have a feeling this is going to be another thread filled with people insisting Ash's dad is Giovanni, Professor Oak, Silver, and every other older guy character?

I get that feeling...

I think it was probably a misunderstanding, because, from the look of the series now it doesn't look like we're ever really going to meet Ash's dad, which is fine. He wouldn't really end up with that big a role anyway.

About the best they could probably do to show his dad is to put him in a movie or something.

I'd always just assumed that his dad died when Ash was very young.

^Old joke. At least, to me, as I insisted on that throughout the summer of 2006 using my SPP sig.

Still kinda funny, but it's lost its charm.

I dunno. It's hinted at in the anime that Ash/Satoshi's father is/was a pretty great trainer. It's possible that his father's simply dead. Actually, I'd say it's pretty likely. Either that or he's out somewhere on a journey...but that doesn't seem like it'd happen. >_> I'm pretty sure that whoever it is, it isn't Giovanni/Sakaki or Oak/Ookido though.

I certainly don't understand how people could think that Professor Oak could be Ash's father. Delia and Oak? That's just sick. I believe it's either Giovanni (anyone remember Pokémon Live!?), Silver, or someone we haven't yet seen in the anime.

Maybe somewhat reasonable when Oak and Delia had been younger. Ten or twenty year gaps between parents aren't that unheard of. But it doesn't seem likely to me mostly because Ash seems to know enough of his father that we would see him acting differently around Oak.

The Oak/Deliah thing is mainly because of Pokemopolis.

I always though that Ash's father was attached to the arm seen in the preview commercials for the begining of the Johto Saga.

I quite like the idea that Ho-Oh carries the spirit of Ash's father, hence why Ash sees it so often (his dad is guiding the way)

I wrote a fic where Ho-oh was the spirit of Ash's father. A n00bish fic, but ehh...

I personally like the idea...

In the dub, Deliah once says "Oh if only your father could see you now. He'd be so proud." I think that's episode two. I don't remember much.

I had these scary discussions on another forum...

...in which we thought Satoshi/Ash's dad ran away with Shigeru/Gary's dad Brokeback Moutnain style. (with a depressed isolated mother who looks herself in the bedroom) *shot* Yeah I'll stop there. But that would make a great slash fic...

Anyway, Ho-oh being having the spirit of Ash's real father is a theory that I like. (wait are we gonna have a Molly/daddy Entei related moment at some point if it's true?) But he really could be dead and gone or just on a never-ending Pokemon journey? But now we need to explain the missing family members of the other recurring characters... Dawn's own father; if Tracey had relatives; Gary's actual parents...

I remmeber I got so confused in Pokemon 3 because they aired it early. I had no idea where Totodile had came form or where Squirtle had gone. I was so confused and for a bit, I thought that Prof Hale was Ash's father.

I really love the third movie. It and the Jirachi movie tie for my all time favorite movie.

What if Ash is just the result of some one-night stand? I mean, think about it, is it really that far-fetched? Delia's Bulbapedia article says that she's only 29, so that would mean she had Ash around the time she was 19. What if her talk about Ash's dad being a great trainer is just her way of sparing him the fact that his dad was some nameless stranger she hooked up with at a party after knocking back one too many beers?

EDIT: Joking aside, I wouldn't be surprised if Ash's dad was Oak at all. Given, Pokemopolis is far from being a reliable source of information, you can't deny that they've made some very interesting observations.

I'd like to know the original source of that. Did I miss something in an episode?

You mean like in the Togepi Kingdom mini-arc?
