Ash's original starter?

What if Ash had woken up on time and gotten a real starter pokemon instead of pikachu? Could you imagine Ash without pikachu or could you picture him with a starter pokemon.....even though ash has all 3 starters, which one could you see him having?

Personally i could see him with a bulbasaur as his starter but he originally wanted squirtle?

So tell me, which starter could you see him with?!?!?
 
Didn't he decide in the end to choose Zenigame?

But if it were my choice, I'd pick Fushigidane because it's voiced by Megumi Hayashibara kickarse :p
 
I always found it funny that Ash wanted Squirtle as his original Starter since when he actual got a Squirtle.it didn't seem like Squirtle knew any attack expect for Water Gun until the Orange Islands and was the least used of the Kanto Staters on Ash's Team during the original Indigo League Saga.

I would think that if Ash got Squirtle as his Stater that would be different, I guess.
 
Yeah, you'd think Ash would want Bulbasaur the most. He kept the thing on his team throughout almost all of Johto, sheesh.

Heck, Ash seemed attached to all his Kanto Pokemon, he really was reluctant to let them go. With his Johto and Hoenn Pokes he just dumped them at Oak's lab and ran off to another region, but Bulba/Squirtle/Charizard seem like they would have never left if Ash didn't come across reasons to benefit them.
 
Squirtle definitely got the worst treatment of the three, in terms of application, screentime, and ability.

I always found it funny that Ash wanted Squirtle as his original Starter since when he actual got a Squirtle.it didn't seem like Squirtle knew any attack expect for Water Gun until the Orange Islands and was the least used of the Kanto Staters on Ash's Team during the original Indigo League Saga.

I found it even funnier when Gary's starter was Squirtle. Like he did it just to spite Ash. I wonder if the writers consciously did that on purpose?
 
Ash still seemed relatively unsure when he decided on Squirtle.

If the WRITERS didn't give him Pikachu, I'm pretty sure he would have received Charmander.
 
Yea he didn't really know, he imagined himself with all three and even tho he decided on squirtle when he got there, he was just glad to be getting a pokemon

I think they must have done :p

I never really understood why Zenigame drew the short straw. It's not like it's any uglier or less marketable than Fushigidane.
 
The show would be a lot different without pikacu thats for sure. Wasn't it pikachus popularity that made Pichu come? If it were not for that, no PCP, NEP, Pichu Bros etc...

But if they had not have given him Pikachu, I am sure it might have been a bulbasaur. Look at it this way, in every other region Ash has always had the grass starter at one point no other starter type has he always had. Kanto = Bulbasaur, Johto = Chicorita, Hoenn = Treecko, Sinnoh = Turtwig

I always thought it was because Ash's only fully-evolved Kanto Starter was Charizard and to play on the idea that the rival has the opposite of the starter you pick in the games. How would Gary know that Ash wanted a Squirtle?

If they were rivals as children then that might explain it. Ash could've said he wanted to choose Squirtle and Gary made note of it.

Gary- I chose the best one.

Gary basically said that in the first episode, though it may have just been dub added. If Gary believed Squirtle was the best one chances are so did Ash.

Honestly it would be different if Ash chose a non Pikachu starter because then what we went through with Pikachu would've happened with his starter. And I kind of doubt they could pull off a Charizard/Venusaur/Blastoise is so weak to Roark, or someone. It would also mean that Ash couldn't choose either a water/grass/fire Pokemon in the newer gens. Because I doubt Ash would dump his starter. I mean he hasn't Pikachu so why should he do it to his hypothetical starter.

Personally a normal type Pokemon would've been the best choice for Ash, starter wise, like Clefairy because then he could get virtually get any type he wanted. I'm sure Clefairy would have a different move set than Ash's other normal type Pokemon. Unlike Pikachu who basically has the same move set that any of Ash's other hypothetical electric Pokemon would have (excluding volt tackle).
