ok, by the start of the diamond and pearl version coming out (6/4 USA) wut level is pikachus is he like level 2374810792348239(exageration) my god. He's been in so many battles, even the elite four.

Pikachu basically gets screwed over at the beginning of every region anyway. At the end of Battle Frontier Pikachu was a powerhouse, now its losing to random wild D/P Pokemon and can't even beat an Elekid or a Buizel.

By that logic Dawn's Buizel is a more powerful Pokemon than Pikachu, but we know that's not true overall. The writers really do paint themselves into a corner sometimes.

Pokemon do have "levels" in terms of strength, and experience...but no numerical levels, as that makes no sense outside a game. That's like saying Pokemon have a set number of HP in the anime.

Though, they have made references to levels, like in The School of Hard Knocks.

I'd say the majority of that episode can be disregarded as piffle. Same goes for a lot of early episodes - where they hadn't really carved out an identity for themselves and didn't really have a set of "world rules".

Well, thanks to the Orange Islands episode that aired today with Drake vs. Ash, Ash made several comments about if Charizard's "Level" was high enough to battle against Dragonite.

Exposed.

Yes, but they also mentioned Drake being a GYM LEADER.

EDIT: In the Charific Valley episode, they mentioned that all the Charizard are at a higher level.

Why are people applying a few off-hand comments in a throw-away filler episode from ten years ago to modern-day episodes?

Who said we were applying it to modern-day episodes? We were discussing about it's existence in the anime. And I could hardly call the Drake episode a "throw-away filler."

level 2374810792348239 != "Charizard's at a high level"

While the idea of skill levels exist in this (and just about every other shounen) anime, the idea of numbered levels doesn't except in that one filler episode from ten years ago.

Wait...

Okay, it has to be said. Wanna know what level Charizard is at?

It's...OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Numerical levels don't exist, Giselle can go suck Castform "feet".

It was weird that they made him seem like Jesus though...OI had some pretty sucky trainers (if Tracey is a native, he can attest to that), so he's probably the hero of that backwater society. :p

And he had a Dragonite, which back then was as bad-ass as Charizard. Almost. (No one is as bad-ass as Charizard, NO ONE!).

Ah, but now...you kids have those newfangled..."Gatorchompers", and those fancy-pants "Saladmix", so you probably don't remember how ferocious ol' Dragonite was back in the days. We had to wait 15 minutes just to trade, and you complain about that Wi-Fly taking too long. Kids today, I tell ya!

I'm pretty sure Pikachu is either:

A) Getting his level reset between regions, or

B) Pushing levels over 200, but keeps losing out to "Beginer's Luck".

I mean, Ash's Charizard almost lost to his Chikorita the first time he tried to catch it because of a lucky shot.

So yes, critical hits, do in fact, make a difference.

Easy.

Pikachu get to lv. 69 or 96.

New reagion?

Ash: Let's go Pikachu!

Pikachu push a reset buttom and return back to 5.
