Alright, so obviously the HGSS announcements kind of ensures a return to Johto for Ash and Co, doesn't it?

So once they get there, Johto and Gen II Pokemon will again return to prominence at least a little bit.

How do you think the writers will handle this? Will some of Ash's Oaked Johto Pokes get a second chance? Will he catch new ones? Will he keep his Sinnoh team intact? Will Dawn/Brock catch new Johto Pokes instead?

I think they will keep Pikachu, Chimchar (whatever it has evolved into by then), and Grotle....then perhaps Totodile, Heracross, and maybe Noctowl will return or maybe a new capture. Those are obviously just blind guesses, but I think there will a mixture between his Sinnoh Pokes and Johto.

Discuss. And Vote.

well obv pikachu, i'd like him to have cyndaquil and then have it evolve, and definatly keep totodile, and for it not to evolve :) heracross defo, and i recon that ask should catch a skarmory :D he's never had a steel pokemon, and i recon it could be good :)

I think Ash will have only one fully evolved Pokemon if he returns to Johto. Most likely it will be Chimchar/Grotle. So Ash will get an Infernape or Torterra.
However I do hope he will work on Cyndaquil and Totodile.

Ash till date hasn’t had a fully evolved water Pokemon. Hopefully Totodile will evolve.
Sure, Staraptor will tag along, Noctowl will get the boot.

You also have to consider that he will probably catch at least one or two new Pokemon. How boring will the series be if he doesn't capture ANY new Pokes.

Sure Dawn might get a Chikorita or something, but Ash is the main star. I also wanna see Dawn or Ash capture a Flaffy!

I don't know about his Noctowl and Heracross - and obviously Donphan has been covered now, but I can see them finally doing something with his Johto starters. An evolution or two perhaps, it'd be nice to see him with a Feraligatr. Noctowl should get some cover too, seeing as its part psychic type, it could learn stuff like Zen Headbutt and Extrasensory.

He'll definitely catch something new, hmmm I don't know, maybe he'll catch another generation 3 Pokemon like Kecleon. I really don't know.

i dont want totodile to avoid, he''s so much fun as he is :) i think he evolves he'll be no fun :/
noctowl's not part pshycic, and i dunno i find him kinda boring :) i still think he should catch a skarmory :)

Mm... Hm.

The pool of pokémon you could catch in Johto is "somewhat" small when it comes to most of the other main stream games. Pretty light, but...

Like other will contradict me, the main characters captured pokémon in areas in the anime that are considered impossible to get them (Off the top of my head, Dawn's Swinub at Mr. Backlot's Mansion, Brock befriending Croagunk, etc.)

So in Johto, if there isn't a big BF arc or something, Ash would probably catch a Growlithe, maybe even a surprising Leafeon (Hah! Take THAT, Dawn fans!).

Honestly, it's all for the writers to show, and my track record for predicting what anyone does is pretty crappy, since I'm usually completely wrong, and things I think usually turn out for the opposite.

I think Dawn will catch a Johto starter.

Likewise, for a Johto Battle Frontier, I don't expect Ash to bring along his all Johto Pokemon full time, but I expect them to have a higher chance of being called into battle than the other Pokemon. In that sense, I think all his Hoenn Pokemon except Sceptile will get the shaft, unless Glalie comes along. I expect an appearance from Charizard at one point, too.

The writers treat Pokémon almost like they do human characters, so I don't think they're going to change the "cast" mid-generation. They'll probably either add one or two new Pokémon, or introduce a character to temporarily replace someone (Brock again, most likely). I don't think they'll bring back Ash's old Pokémon, but I wish they would for that arc.

Holy Remoraid!

I can't believe that no one remembered the most awesome team addition possible for Ash if he returned to Johto!

CHARIZARD!!!! ... IN CHARICIFIC VALLEY!!!!
Well FireEmblemSP at post #8 on this thread did

True. Although it would be very awesome to see Ash have to battle some Ice-type frontier brain or whatever with Cyndaquil, Charizard, and Chimchar (or whatever it is by then).

Random Ice-type trainer would have zero chance.

In my opinion, from a marketing perspective:

Definitely Staying: Pikachu and Monferno. Infernape needs more exposure, Pikachu is self-explanatory.

Probably Staying: Gliscor has been developed really well and is the new Corphish, so it might hang around.

Probably Going: Grotle, since all of its forms have been heavily featured by now, and with Paul, another Torterra would be redundant. Considering now interchangeable the birds are, there's no real reason to keep Staraptor around.

Definitely Going: Totodile will surely make a comback, considering how little was done with it and its evolutions, so bye bye to Buizel.

Definitely Returning: Totodile, see above.

Probably Returning: Noctowl if they can fish up some new moves. Bayleef, provided they can feature Chikorita in some other way.

Not Returning: Since Infernape would be around, the future looks dim for Cyndaquil. Heracross and Donphan are nice, but have probably been used enough for now.

So I think Ash's team for Johto will most likely be Pikachu, Infernape, Totodile, (probably) Gliscor, Bayleef->Meganium, and a new capture. But Gliscor might bet swapped out for either Staraptor or Noctowl.

Oh, and Cyndaquil > Quilava for Dawn. She'll possibly leave another Pokemon with her mom to clear up space for a Gen V Pokemon. Hopefully hers has the opposite personality of Ash's - we don't need another narcoleptic Pokemon.

I don't see Brock's team changing at all.

I think he'll keep the team relatively intact. Chimmy and Grotle are musts because they are starters, or at least I think they'd be kept around. And you've got to think Ash will catch at least one new Pokemon since thats a big part of Pokemon...catching them.

Pika, Monferno, Grotle, Totodile, and two new ones maybe?

I dunno why but Chikorita just seems like the kind of Pokemon Dawn would get.

I think I want to say my final predictions are

Pikachu, Infernape, Feraligatr, Meganium, Gliscor, ? for Ash.

Piplup, Mamoswine, Quilava, Gen V Pokemon, and either Pachirisu OR Buneary for Dawn.

Brock: No change.

I dunno why but Chikorita just seems like the kind of Pokemon Dawn would get.

Yeah, because it's girly. It's one of the few starters that looks like it should be female by default because it looks like its wearing a necklace. But we've seen girly Chikorita. It's been done to death in fact. There's also the whole thing about needing someone to feature Cyndaquil, since Ash will have Monferno - he's not up to it.

Pikachu, Staraptor, Infernape, Crawdaunt, Carvanha, and Meganium.

They'll never give a main character another non-amphibious water-type starter, and nobody's ever owned a Dark-type, and Carvanah isn't even from Johto.

I don't think Carvanha will happen, there's already limited spots since they will want to keep some Sinnoh pokemon and have a least one of Ash's johto pokemon come back.
