Well, Ash has Five Badges with a possible sixth on the way soon and I was wondering about Ash's Rival for the Sinnoh League.

I'm not talking about Paul or Jun, but the rival that he meets before and during the League.

Ash had Richie in Kanto.

Harrison in Johto.

Morrison and Tyson in Hoenn.

Notice a pattern?

All have been boys. I think it's time that Ash's Rival for Sinnoh be a girl.

If the Sinnoh League Champion can be female (Cythia). Why Not?

What do you think?

What Pokémon should she have?

What kind of personality should she have?

well... why not?
but, i hope she'll be a tough one, not a girly girl trainer fighting with a pachirisu and an oddish... (i mean, look at cynthia, such a badass but still feminine! :D)

(by the way, talking about the sinnoh league, i'm starting to have a bad feeling about ash's performance...)

The closest we had was Katie in the Hoenn league.

Her 6 on 6 battle with Ash was considered the best battle of that tournament.

Well, now that Ash has 2 rivals (Jun and Paul) I dont think theyre gonna give him another one. They might though. But It will probably just be random battles with other trainers, some of which will be girls (like his battle with Katie) and not really a rivalry.

In Johto they tried to build up Casey as a second rival, and she would have been great to see in the Johto league, but that subplot ending up going nowhere.

I don't know what they were thinking. Casey only appeared in 3 Johto episodes, the last of which revealed she failed as a trainer and only got 4 badges. Then in the specials she travels to Kanto for some bizarre reason to meet Misty, meaning she doesn't even finish in Johto.

Its kinda sad, really.

You can't exactly fail as a trainer if you do win some badges. The only way to really fail as a trainer is to if you fail to develop a loving bond with your Pokémon. Which isn't true in Casey's case.

To be honest, I kinda doubt that most trainers even pursue their Pokémon carrier with as much intensity as Ash does. Casey didn't really treat Pokémon as serious business like Ash does. It was only a hobby and played second fiddle to her first love: baseball.

So she didn't "fail as a trainer".

I'm begining to think that you treat Pokémon's characters in the same way Paul treats his Pokémon: You don't really care about them as actual characters and only care about what they win.

It would have been interesting to see Casey battle Ash in the Johto league though, no idea why they chose not to do that.

If you stop to think about it, Casey appeared for the same amount of eps Gary did in Johto, they both got 3 eps each. Yet...Casey just fizzled out.

That's what I don't get. Johto had the possibility to give Ash two rivals, one of which was a girl, yet the bulk of that saga felt like Ash had no rival at all.

Maybe that's why Paul and Zoey appear so much in DP, the writers don't want to repeat past mistakes. As for this topic, Zoey is a female rival but Dawn got her.

well, it's better to make bonds with your poke' AND to win sometimes, else you'd be a good breeder, but a bad trainer

What I don't get is why badges need to be held in such high regard.

Most trainers that Ash and friends run into only seem to have only a few badges. Or no badges at all. Does this make them all failures? Not really.

There's more to interacting with Pokémon then competiting with them. It all depends on what works best for you and your Pokémon.

EDIT: Also, I don't see how what episodes they appear in matters to how well they do as trainers. It's been implied repeatedly in the indigo seasons that Gary accomplished alot more in the time it takes Ash to accomplish something. Oak boasted on how Gary captured 50 Pokémon before Ash talked to him at Bill's lighthouse.

As for episode count I like to actually see the rivalries, then you know, not see them. I would have loved to see more Gary eps in Johto, but what can ya do.

You know, I'd like to see a female rival for Ash. Is Aoi collecting badges, or what? 'Cause they could either pull a Casey with her...or actually build her up to be a good battle in the Sinnoh League.

If they do give him a female league only rival this time, I bet she'll be shy and tomboyish and have a crush on Ash for some bizarre reason. But even with that, I might enjoy her if she had an interesting cast of Pokemon like Magnezone or Gallade, something you wouldn't expect a girl trainer. to have.

I would like it very much. In fact, I wonder what else could come out of this relationship, between Ash and this female rival. Not my intention to jump the gun, but would Ash actually develop feelings for her? The extra "rivalry" could be just what the writers need to see Ash develop, if he isn't.

May I ask, is this thread more saying that you want Ash's rival to be a girl than the idea that Ash should have a girl rival?

I'm just curious. Nothing really says he needs one, although it would be nice, and possibly bound to happen. I mean if you think about it, it was a woman who defeated Richie. So the girls are definitely up there in the comp. I remember, I think it was you (?) who made the predictions for Ash's opponents in the League. I'd actually much rather see a girl or two than Nando (definitely), and maybe even the Conway fill in spot.

A random girl with strong Pokémon like Machamp, Rhyperior, Magmortar, Gengar, Dragonite etc. And she could even have a new Gen Pokémon like Jynx-evolved. The battle between her and Ash would be absolutely awesome to watch. And Ash will show us how could he overcome Pokémon as strong as that. Because the E4's would be even stronger. I don't want her to meet up with Ash before the league because I don't want something similar with the battle against Ritchie and Morrison to happen.

...fourteen posts and nobody's mentioned Macey? '_'
She's too feminine and hateful to me. Especially with her crush on Ash. How disgusting!

A bad feeling, you say? Ash might be the lucky one to win the Sinnoh League, which is why he will improve his team more better.

Oh, I forgot about the personality. Well, I think her personality should be similar with Paul. She will be desperate to win. And that's why she has strong Pokémon with her.

The point I'm making is that Ash's past rivals, the one's the he meets shortly before the League competion (accept for Richie since Ash met him during the League) have all been boys. I'm not talking about rivals that Ash has during the course of the saga like Paul.

I do want Ash's League rival this time to be a girl.

I think it would be awesome if she did have a shy tomboysih personality, but still be feminine and who knows it could be fun to see Ash actually have feelings for her and not know what to think of it.

I don't want her to have "girly" Pokémon or a "girly" personality. That's what Dawn is for.

And yes, I was the one that made the Sinnoh League predictions, in the thread, "What are your predicitons for the end of Shinnoh?"

Which did include the female rival that I would like to see Ash meet and battle in this saga.
