Alright, I want to know which of Ash's bird pokemon do you think is the strongest? My vote is Swellow, which as a Tailow was able to tank, that's right, TANK Pikachu's electric attacks. That right there is scary enough, but then it wins agaist other battlers, and even beats a more experienced Swellow that knows an attack it didn't. You simply did not mess with this bird. Hell, I bet it could easily kick the crap out of Paul's Honchkrow and still be fresh to battle. What do you all think?

Ash's strongest bird... To me, offensively you have to give it to Staraptor. The bird knows Brave Bird and Close Combat and has show to be a capable battler in the Maylene and Candice gym battles. Defensely, you have to give to Swellow, the writers just kept pushing how much he could take attacks and, while I agree he has some fighting experience, he has a very limited move pool, has it's strongest attack was aerial ace... I would give a slight edge to Staraptor, but both of them are about equal.

Honourable mention to Noctowl in the weird-ass wild card pulls moves out of nowhere category... Noctowl was the unpredictable one out of the birds has it knew a psychic attack (the only pokemon Ash has that knows one) and used moves like foresight and confuse ray. So, it's useful for the oddball fight where Ash has to think outside the box instead of relying on speed and power (like the Morty one)

Ash's weakest bird : Pidgeotto. Don't start talking about how awesome it was as pidgeot, cause when it was Ash's it was a pidgeotto, a glorified smokescreen fan and TR seeker...

Interesting. But even if Starraptor knows both Aerial Ace and Close Combat, it doesn't mean it would win against an obviously more experienced and seemingly tougher bird like Swellow. In fact, I may sound like a dick here, but Swellow beat a stronger and/or more experienced Swellow while starraptor, as a starly, lost to a stronger starly. Not to mention, the bulbapedia stated Swellows statistics as winning at least once every time it was used, with like two exceptions. That's a pretty good record in my opinion which is why I'm arguing in favor of Swellow.

So has Staraptor.

Against Candice, it beat Medicham before falling to Abomasnow.

Against Paul, it beat his Weavile before falling to Ursaring.

If we count Staravia on par with Taillow, Staravia beats Taillow hands down, I can't think of one battle Taillow won at all (excluding the Pokeringer matches before it evolved).

Noctowl was the worst by far. The thing couldn't win a battle to save its life.

It defeated Morty's pokemon, including Morty's Gengar... still better than Pidgeotto whose biggest achievement is... what again ? was it used in battle after Cerulean Gym ??? Come on Scott, we know you have a rash when you hear Johto or Johto-related things... but Noctowl wasn't Ash's worst bird pokemon and you know it...

Noctowl lasted about 10 seconds against Harrison's Steelix in the Johto league, and went down in like one attack. That was the only battle it had in the entire Johto league tournament, and it went down in about 10 seconds.

Noctowl was only good against ghost Pokemon, against everything else it was weak physically and had no defense.

If we're going by birds that Ash actually owned, Pidgeotto was terrible. I know you like to hate on Johto and everything, but you have to admit Noctowl won Ash a badge. Pidgeotto did nothing of worth besides popping balloons and smokescreens, and even as a Pidgeot, it didn't even BEAT Fearow.

Why this thing is the cause of so much worship is beyond me.

Pidgeotto was seemingly stronger than Starmie, and it used Double edge against Rhydon in Viridian Gym.

I strongly believe that if Pidgeot was never released, it would be right along Bulba/Squirtle/Charizard during their reunions for the big battles.

I'm going with Swellow, since it just didn't seem to get the concept of 'give up', or 'man, that smarts' for that matter. Throw it into pillars, chuck it into rocks, smack it in the back....it doesn't matter. He's still gonna take down 2 of your pokemon.

Oh come on, Starmie sucked. While that may be an impressive feat for a pokemon without a mouth, it doesn't....*giggle*....say much in the long run.

And I could use Double Edge against a Rhydon. How hard can it be to run into something and hurt yourself in the process? I'm sure there are several members that could explain how simple it is, right? Right?!

Swellow, imo, is the strongest bird. With its experience, its battles, its guts, its aerial moves...Swellow was just awesome!

Staraptor is also strong. It has great attacks and is definitely a fighter. It just hasn't been a shining star in battles as much as Swellow has so far. But it's definitely the next strongest.

Pidgeot's strength would probably be pretty strong if it didn't leave but it did and its battles before its departure, imo, weren't as great as Swellow's or Staraptor's.

Then of course Noctowl didn't really do much except the battle with Morty and that one against Harrison in the league.

So:

Swellow > Staraptor > Pidgeot > Noctowl

Swellow currently has the edge, but only because we haven't been to the league yet. Staraptor has so much potential, along with most of the present team, that I think it will quickly edge out Swellow once it comes crunch time.

I give the edge to Swellow over Staraptor currently--he was an absolute beast during the Hoenn league.

Staraptor has a chance of outdoing him, but we must wait and see.
