'Temporary' Pokémon are those under control/used by a character (Ash) for a limited amount of time, correct?

2 questions regarding Ash:
1) Wouldn't Haunter and Larvitar come under this?
and 2) Shouldn't more Pokémon be under this category? (Note: Pokémon used in EP002 by Ash in the Pokémon Center)

Probably a pointless thread but I'd like to settle it :)

When you talk of "settling it" are you saying that you disagree with how Bulbapedia has chosen to categorise them? Because, if so, the Anime forum isn't really the place to raise that kind of dispute.

If you're asking for personal opinions, then I would not count Haunter as one of Ash's pokemon, even on a temporary basis. Haunter only followed Ash around for shits and giggles and came and went whenever he pleased. There was no actual control on Ash's part.

Larvitar's arc I don't remember that well.

It says on Bulba that Ash and Sabrina said he caught Haunter off screen

He doesn't ever get Haunter in a poke ball, if that's what you're implying. I can't recall what Ash and Sabrina's exact interpretations of the situation were, but Haunter was just there voluntarily.

As far as Larvitar goes: Ash was merely given it as an egg by Prof. Elm to deliver to Mt. Silver. It was never really one of his Pokémon.

"Temporary" Pokémon seem to be those that were entrusted to Ash, whether for a competition, or by that Pokémon's owner. I wouldn't really count the Pokémon Center 'mons from the 2nd episode, since it was an emergency, completely random Pokémon belonging to other trainers, they only appeared very briefly and were mostly nondescript. Haunter and Larvitar could be called "temporary", they just kind of have this special status since they were with Ash for a certain period of time, even though they never actually belonged to him.

I wouldn't consider Haunter and Larvitar as his temporary Pokémon, because he never owned them to begin with. Haunter just tagged along with Ash, and he was supposed to deliver Larvitar to Mt. Silver.
