Ash's Unova Team: Too Many, Too Few, Just Right?

What are your thoughts about Ash having more than six Pokemon?

We are all aware by now that Ash has caught a few more Pokemon than is the norm during the 43 episodes that have aired of Black and White/Best Wishes. Currently, he stands at owning Pokemon on a recurring/changing basis. In the past he has caught more than six Pokemon and sent them away (Tauros, Krabby, Muk), only using them for league battles and such. But this is the first time he has regularly swapped his team about.

But do you think it should be done?

I personally see it as unnecessary. We have Pikachu, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott and Scraggy on a more regular basis, but than we hardly see Tranquill, Swadloon, Palpitoad or Roggenrolla. And what if Ash catches more Pokemon? None of the Pokemon are really developing as it is, could we add more to this mix?

Whilst I think Ash should have stuck to six and given them storylines, I'm interested by what you all think. Should Ash have more Pokemon, should have needed less, does he have the right amount, could it work better with changes, or do you just don't care?
