Ash's WORST battles

Basically we're here to discuss some of Ash's worst losses and battles. This includes movies, tournaments, gym battles, etc. From the moment he got Pikachu to after the Unova League and everything in between.

Heck to be honest, it can include battles that he has won! Some of those wins were simply plot driven and nothing more so undeserved victories can count as his worst battles as well.

What battles make you cringe when you go back to watch them or jump into your mind first when you think about Ash losing?

For me one of the worst was Charizard losing to Brandon's Dusclops. At that point in the series, Ash should have known better than to use a Fighting type move of a Ghost type because he had battled Dusclops before against that coordinator Phantom.

Losing in the Indigo League due to a disobedient Charizard was both a fail AND embarrassment.
 
He may have won this battle, but I still think his performance against Elesa was pretty embarrasing. He focused way too much on types and made some rookie mistakes that almost cost him the battle. When he was sitting down thinking about who to use against Emolga after Snivy lost, I came close to screaming "Use Roggenrola you dumb shit!"

Pikachu vs Tynamo was also pretty dissapointing since Pikachu beat it with a single not very effective move. Some ace that was...
 
When Ash tried to tackle the two converging Mew/Mewtwo phychic energy beams on New Island. Ouch.
 
Most of his Kanto league matches. And that Hoenn one with Thunder Armor.

I don't mind the Elesa battle because it was hilarious when Pikachu exploded at Satoshi XD
 
Ash vs Ritchie annoyed me a lot.

I agree with both sides of the Ash vs Elesa argument and think that Roggenrola should have been used instead.

Ash vs Cameron is right up there for me, sending out Oshawott after Boldore, Ash should have nailed with that battle.

In the same way Ash vs Trip (5v3) annoyed me, in the way that Ash basically let Tepig get nailed, and then Pikachu, who could have beaten Frillish. That could have been a decent battle, only to be ruined by Ash's idiocy.

Charizard vs Dusclops was annoying, although I guess to the writers he was expendable, having beaten an Articuno earlier on.

ASh vs Brock, Misty, Erika (basicly not a battle)
Ash vs Ritchie
Ash vs Morrison (even though he won)
Ash vs Volkner (after so much waiting for a Gym battle, we got this?!)
Ash vs Tobias
Ash vs Trip, BW001 (A Pikachu who tied with a Latios lost to a Snivy... Does that mean that Snivy was able to beat Latios?!)
Ash vs Burgh, Clay, Skyla (mid-battle evos)
Ash vs Elesa
Ash vs Trip, BW092 (Was Serperior THAT faster than a 3-Flame Charged Pignite?!)
Ash vs Trip, BW103-104 (Serperior gets the upper hand, Ash shouts "Pikachu!!!", Pikachu gets encouraged, Pikachu wins!)

Maybe we should also call Ash vs Whitney, first one and Ash vs Lenora, first one, because in the first case we have an overconfident ASh who beat 2 Pokemon with a weakling Cyndaquil and got curbstomped by a truk Miltank, and in the second case it was obvious from the first second that Ash will lose it.

EDIT: And of course... Aim for the Horn! (Ash vs Blaine, first battle)
 
Yeah, I like thunder armor too. One of the few times deus ex machina was really cool in the anime.

Well, vs Elesa, vs Lenora and vs Trip (for the necessity to make Ash looks really dumber than ever) in Unova; vs Gardenia (x2 + tag battle) and vs Lyra & Kourry in Sinnoh; vs May + Norman fans (I hate that episode), vs Flannery, vs Brawly, vs Watson (x2) and vs Tropius' guy (league) in Houenn; vs Clair and vs Bugsy (dislike the poor animation) in Johto; vs Danny and vs Lorelei/Prima in OI; and, finally, vs Misty (forgiven thanks to "Totodile duel"), vs Erika (no conclusive battle + I don't like Erika) and vs Sabrina (again, no conclusive battle).

Out of all Ash's battle the one that under my skin was All the kanto legaue battles
 
There are many ive decided to foucs on this one i watched again recently.. Ash vs Winona the whole battle is terrible in so many ways

Pikachu gets 1hit KOd by a hydro pump
Altaria gets 2 hit KOd by a bullet seed and leaf blade, Winnona ony uses peck and dragon rage ? does an altaria not have better moves at this point seriously ??

the battle was being set up for swellow vs swellow and in the end that battle ended up over shadowing the first two in being awfull.

Ashs Swellow, damage taken : 2 arieal aces, 1 peck attack, 2x hyper beams

Winnoas shiny Swellow, damage taken : 1 wing attack...

1 HIT KO
 
One of my favorites in this category is his lost to Paul before the Sinnoh League at Lake Verity. Seriously, that was one of those losses due to his cocky attitude. Each battle with Paul was the prove to him that his way of battling was wrong but in this case he seriously went overboard.

Not switching out Buizel when it was clearly at the limit, Grotle against Honchrow and numerous mistakes like that cost him to lose in the most pitiful manner. Seriously, Paul could have recalled Weavile and Ursaring and switched to avoid any of his team fainting if he wanted to.
 
The worst battle is no doubt the Elesa one. Yes, it beats even anything in Kanto, because as stupid as he was then, he was not stupid enough to only bring one pokemon, believing he could sweep with only it. Next worst? That's harder. I will have to go with the gym battle with Brock. It DEFINED anime BS by pretty much not only being a pity badge, but it screwed with game mechanics and Ash should not have won it. #3 would be Sabrina. Again with the BS, and furthermore, nobody even had to fight. I'm only rating it less than the previous because he did have to get Haunter to cooperate to even make it possible, so at least some effort was put into it. (I'll still say it's an effort any idiot could've made)

Because it came completely out of nowhere, they could have used Wattson's gym to show off Guts instead of having Pikachu one-shot everything, but no, they had to take the cheap writing route.
