I didn't see a thread for this, so I made one...

Anyway, I freakin' hate having AS. It makes me have no social skills, and I'm lonely because of it. It's just unfair. I've been on sites for people with it, and of course, they can't help me! They get all nasty...

Anyone else have it? Anything you wish to comment on about it?

EDIT: Sorry if I came off as a bit angry. I wasn't in a good mood when I posted this, because of some comments on deviantART. Sorry about that.

Um, I'm an Aspy, and I have pretty good social skills. Don't forget the upsides to AS- we can be very charismatic when we want to be, and we're VERY intelligent.

You mustn't have it as bad as me then. I have it so bad, my social skills are almost non-exsistent. And yeah, we can be intelligent. I'm only intelligent when it comes to certain things, like animals.

Hey, same here. I love zoology. And your social skills are only bad if you LET them be bad. Working on them with things like Occupational Therapy and ROPES courses can really help out. They did for me.

In short, working on social skills is key to getting them to be better.

If you are here on this forum, typing away your feelings, then I say you DO have social skills, it's just that they're not as apparent in real life. I absolutely despise the stigma of AS simply because it's like the psychologists themselves are trying to condescend you, and they're not supposed to do that. I say it doesn't matter how you act, as long as you're not hurting anyone, who gives a flying flip?

My feelings exactly, though my parents thought otherwise. They told me to "be myself" during a school interview, then got mad at me for "ruining" the interview BECAUSE I tried to "be myself."

I have it too.

I don't have Asperger's, so I don't personally know to what extent it affects one's social skills, but cries of "WAHHH I HAV ASPURGRS DONT B MEEN 2 MEEE!!!1!" just seem extremely disrespectful to people who actually do have the syndrome. I don't have a problem with Aspies-- I mean, a close relative of mine is one and while he admittedly isn't the best at socializing, he's not an idiot who balks every time someone says something he disagrees with. And there's also you guys, who seem to be a relatively mature and smart bunch. On the other hand, "fake Aspies" don't seem to even know anything about their supposed condition and just throw it around as an excuse to act like a moron without being called out on it.

tl;dr Fakers need to learn that "Aspy =/= stupid" so that the uninformed won't think real Aspies are retards. Because they're not.

Now, I'm not implying that any of you are lying about having Asperger's. I'm just stating what I think about people elsewhere on the internet who do lie about it.

People with AS whining about their shortcomings is one of the most irritating things in the world for me. That or those who use it to grab attention. Hence why I've not joined the AS club here. Basically if you act like a twat because you have (or at least claim to have) AS, you deserve all the shit you get.

Also, this could probably go in a different part of the board.

I have it too. It can be tough. If you want to talk about it, I'm here.

I am diagnosed with it. I would never fake having it!

Some advice: don't think of yourself as being wrong, abnormal, etc. That's a bad way to go.
You have to think about the strengths and weaknesses that you do have, not those that society says you should.
Normal is a city in Illinois.

That and don't let it define who you are - you'll only make people hate you for it.

Strengths? Mhm... That's a tough one. I always focus on the negative stuff. No one wonder people online hate me; I'm always negative.

I don't hate you, I don't even know you. There's got to be something that you're good at.

i remember a kid at my middle school who said that he had asperger's syndrome. turns out, he was just an attention whore. i understand exactly what you mean when you say you hate fakers.

<== holds altars to the hindu elephant god, ganesh.
