Wednesday, September 7th

After a long summer flew by, it was time for the school year to begin again. It was a pleasant morning, not too hot or cold, and Seattle Tech was beginning to open its doors for their open house. It was a large, prestigious building with numerous sections to it. The actual place itself had three floors, and its width stretched out for what seemed like millions of feet. Each section of the school was dedicated to one of the six branches: Science, Social Studies, Culinary, Art, Language, or Athletics. They had a copious amount of supplies for each of the students to make use of, such as a decked out weight room for the Athletics Branch, or a auditorium for Art students.

One of Seattle Tech's Science students, Ashlyn Shen, began to make her way towards the opening of the building. She had long, black hair which was currently in a styled ponytail. She also wore a pretty white blouse with a pink skirt. Perfect for open house. She took a moment to look at the building, taking a deep breath as she did so. Numerous trees and bushes decorated the entrance, and the school itself gave off an aura of 'formal' and had a quite pleasant feeling. The air smelt like freshly mowed grass, she noted. Ashlyn would have taken a moment more to take the scenery in, but she was soon moved along by other students; she was blocking traffic, and the open house was starting.

Open house was always held a day before classes actually began. Clubs and after school activities were a huge part to the school environment, and to how students interacted. As such, there was a day dedicated to walking around the school and signing up for clubs and various sports. It was held in the school's largest gymnasium located in the Athletics Branch, and numerous tables were set up for each club.

Ashlyn was in charge of one of these said tables, just because she was the leader of the Assist Club. Was this club an idea of her own? Of course not. She first heard about such a club from her cousin, as she was in a club just like that. Things led to others, and Seattle Tech's Assist Club was born. It's been in existence for only a few months; it was started back in April. Since then, Ashlyn constantly attempted to keep it afloat with the few members she had. This open house was an opportunity for new people to join, and she was excited about that.

The girl finally made her way to the gym, and quickly set up the club's table. It was blanketed in a pretty, lace table cloth. It also held some important papers, such as flyers or sign up forms. She took a seat behind it all, and took out her phone once she did so. "Wonder where the others are," she muttered to herself, lazily scrolling through the internet on her phone. Other members of the club were told to help out with promoting the club, and so they were expected to arrive soon.

((Well, here it is. This is the point where you decide whether or not your OC is new to the club or not. While I would prefer them to be new, I do need some veterans as well. Second through fourth years have the option to choose between this. First years are automatically first, as this is their first year at the school. Veterans know Ashlyn well, newbies do not. Have your OC approach her to begin. Have fun!))

Milo weaved through the tables, drinking in the sights. She was excited to be at her new school, but there were so many people, and all of them seemed to know exactly what they were doing except for her. Was it because everyone else was in clubs? Maybe she should join a club. The thought just presented itself without being asked. Why not?

A table ringed with a pretty lace cloth caught her eye, and she wandered towards it. Assist Club. What a strange name.

"Hello," Milo said to the girl sitting behind the table.

Avi showed up a few minutes after Ashlyn had set up the table. "Konnichiwa, Ashlyn." He greeted with a wave, striding over to join her. The third-year student had been in the club a year prior, so he wasn't new, per se. The young man was taking Japanese in the Language branch, and often lapsed into his second tongue every now and then. He was wearing a black shirt with his usual purple jacket unzipped over it, with dark green jeans. It was his usual look, and his hair was pulled back in a small ponytail - commonplace for a guy like Avi.

Connor strolled uncomfortably through the gym, killing time. Football didn't have practice today, so he needed something else to do. He was just about to give up and leave when one table caught his eye. An assist club sounded like something he'd enjoy, since he liked helping people. He approached the table, but his throat tightened when he tried to say something to the girl. Instead, he stood to the side, away from the other people who had arrived, looking unintentionally standoffish and threatening because of his sheer size and his annoyed facial expression.

Milo shied away from Connor in surprise, her guitar swinging awkwardly on her back as she turned. His sudden appearence had frightened her badly, and it took her a moment to regain her composture. He wouldn't be at this table if he wasn't nice, right? she reasoned with herself.

"Hi," she said softly. "Are you here to join the club too?"

Connor looked up when he saw he was being addressed, and forced his expression to lighten, though was only marginally successful, as he now looked uncomfortable.

"Y-yeah..." he stuttered, picking up on his nervousness and clamming up, electing to just nod with his lips pursed tightly.

It took her a moment to glance up, but Ashlyn eventually directed her attention towards Milo after hearing her speak. "Oh hey," she greeted, sliding her phone in her purse. She then picked up a flyer and handed it to Milo. "This is the Assist Club. We help students around the school with various problems," Ashlyn explained with a charming grin. "You can call me Ash. We're a fun group of students, and it's a great experience."

Just as she was about to ask her if she had any questions, Ashlyn's attention was diverted by the arrival of Avi. "Hello," she said in a cheerful voice. "There's a couple seats back here. Take a seat." She gestured her head towards the stack of foldable chairs behind her. She then looked back at Milo. "Do you have any questions?" she finally asked. Her eyes took notice of the boy watching them, and it was beginning to make her uneasy. "What's your name?" she asked the two, trying to list the awkward mood.

Milo smiled at Ash, accepting the flier gratefully. "That sounds really cool. I think I'm going to join. Oh, and I'm Milo Niger. It's nice to meet you," she said happily, picking up a sign-up form and a pen and beginning to fill it out.

A club that just helps people just because? That sounds awesome, Milo was thinking. I wonder what sort of problems they help with.

Connor looked back to the girl in charge and cleared his throat.

"Connor McKinnon." he forced out, silently cursing his social ineptitude. "I'd... like to join... if you'd have me, that is." He began fidgeting, looking even more uncomfortable.

"Okay, thanks for joining," Ashlyn said with a grin. She took the filled out forms from both Milo and Conner and placed them in a folder of hers. "We meet everyday after school in room 153. That's near the Athletics wing."

"Okay!" Milo said happily. "Is, um, is it alright for me to bring my guitar?" she asked carefully, pointing to the guitar case strapped to her back for emphasis.

"Please be punctual upon arriving," Vanessa said, walking behind the table with a stack of papers in her arm. The girl had her hair tied neatly behind her in a bun, wanting to look more formal for the open house. "You never know when we might have a request waiting." Vanessa took a seat at the table next to Ashlyn, placing the papers in front of her. Extra sign-up sheets, pamphlets, and posters to be hung around the school.

"I went ahead and printed some posters to be put up around the school," Vanessa said softly to Ashlyn. "Word of mouth is all well and good, but this way we'll be able to advertise ourselves more effectively."

Connor nodded his thanks and tried to smile, but stopped, since he felt terribly awkward smiling.

"Thank you, ma'am." he forced out, wanting to be polite, especially to the leader of this club.

"That's fantastic," Ashlyn said in mild shock upon seeing Vanessa. She didn't expect her to actually bring supplies. "I'll have Brett walk around with them once he gets here," she then added. Brett was a good friend of hers who was also in the club. "Thanks for printing out stuff for us, though."

A thin boy with a small pair of rectangle wire-frame glasses was in a hurry to get to the table. He had told Ashlyn he'd help with the fair and he was already running late. So he was sprinting to get there even though he was far from an athlete.

"Sorry... sorry... I'm late." Mikey apologized to her, a bit out of breath from running all the way there. "Got held up at home with the dogs." He explained quietly. "Any interest so far?"

Milo had been turning away, about to leave, when the new boy suddenly ran up, making her jump. "Hello," she said, wondering if all of the Assist Club was going to be as surprising as that. She found herself hoping so.

"I'm Milo. I just joined the Assist Club," she introduced herself.

"Late again, Mikey," Vanessa chided in a somewhat serious tone. "What kind of impression will that make on the new arrivals?"

She then turned to Milo, nodding her head with a friendly smile. "And welcome to the club, Milo. I'm sure you'll enjoy it."

Milo smiled at Vanessa happily and thanked her before turning to go, humming happily under her breath. She felt much better then she had when she had come in, as though she suddenly belonged to something that wanted her. It was a lovely feeling.

Milo turned around and waved at the Assist Club table before it was blocked by the constantly moving bodies migrating from place to place.

"Yeah, what she said," Ashlyn said to Mikey, watching Milo leave. She waved good bye. "She joined. And this guy too," she added, pointing a finger at Conner.

"Sorry girls." Mikey repeated his earlier apology, smiling sheepishly now that he had regained breath. "Mom had to run some errands and she left me home to watch Kemba and Allen." He explained, referring to the family's two Siberian Huskies. "I'm just glad that we are getting more people for the club."
