In the meteorology world, there has been an object of concern. There is trend in hurricanes known as Rapid Intensification. The event is self explanitory, the hurricane intensifies rapidly.
At first it was rare (like Andrew was it for the 90's). However, starting with Irene in '03, they've become more common. Infact the storms that have shown rapid intensification since Irene are Charlie, Ivan, Dennis, Emily, Katrina, Rita, Stan, Wilma, and Beta. Yes, seven storms just last year.
So far we've been lucky. Irene hit way too late. Ivan, Emily, Katrina, Rita, and Wilma hit too late and Charlie, Dennis, Stan, and Beta hit too early to reach their possible maximum power.
However, if this is a time where these kinds of storms are commonplace, how long until a storm does reach its peak as it makes ladfall as a Catagory 5.
Food for thought and something to discuss. Considering it's the off season, we might as well discuss.
