It's football! Not soccer, damnit! >:O

Congrats! Woah, 31 years of waiting? That's a lot. It wouldn't surprise me if Costa Rica (our national team classified a few weeks ago) has to face Australia in the World Cup too. =P

Didn't know you were a football fan, Mamoru-kun. ^_^;

Any sport where Uruguay is good can't be legit.

At least football is more interesting than baseball.

Uruguay was good at it 50 years ago. :P Also, Costa Rica sucks at it. It only classified because the others in Central, North America and the Caribbean suck even more.

Baseball is meant to be a relaxing pastime, not as much the national sport, which is *football*... Soccer is slow, the strategy is fine but the execution is still slow to develop. It's terrible to watch on TV, there's not enough contact, and it's impossible to leave to pee w/o missing the game.

A relaxing pasttime? No wonder why I'd fall asleep watching a baseball game. ^_~ Also in football I get to see the players' legs. ;D

I'm not saying football (or "soccer" as you guys call it) is better than any other sport though. I'd rather watch a basketball game.

Archy, you know as well as I do that we won't go any further. I was supporting Uruguary during that match because I knew that even though we have managed to scrape through all that will happen is we will begin to believe we are good when we aren't.

I loved the commentary though, with one guy trying to be fair, while the other was absolutely paying out Uruguay and talking about, "our boys playing them off the pitch". etc. There was a lot of pauses, and I wondered if he was saying all this racist and bias stuff which the producer had to silence, lol.

Anyway, it's good that we got in, but unless we are playing against equally hopeless teams I don't think we have much hope.

Cheers Liam

Baseball > all. :P

The US qualified before England this year! Maybe we have a chance! ^_^

Football > Baseball. (Certainly in Mario land.)

And you do realise that England hasn't won since 1966? :p

Ok, that's definitely not the case. The socceroos have the potential to be a fantastic team, perhaps not World Cup champions yet but we'll definitely give the teams in our pool a good go. Our new manager has done wonders for the team in the space of four months and we've got another 6 before the Cup starts so i think we've got a chance to do really well.

If you actually paid attention to the game you'll have noticed that we dominated for pretty much the entire match, that wasn't a lucky win, that was skill.

We held our own and looked quite dangerous in the first half but fell apart a little bit in the second. The score was still just 1-0 though.

Kingler, sorry, I only really intently watched the first 30 mins where we sucked, watched the next 60 in between House, (I talked to someone else about it and realised what happened). We might do ok, but I don't think we're good enough to go too far, we really need 1 really classy player, (Kewell is unfit, and looks like a ninja, so he doesn't count) who can carry the team when things go wrong.

I also think its a little suss how the Uruguans (damn that words hard to spell) got some dodgy ecomony flight and we got a spacious luxury priavte plane, but meh.

Oh and about luck, penatly shoot-outs are pretty much luck, and Recoba was pretty unlucky with his shot and free-kicks.
