Well, seeing as though we have a Jesus club, it can't hurt to have one of these, right?
Let me explain what Autisum is.(and no it's not a religion)

Autisum is a brain disorder (wich I have) with common symtoms such as:
repeated behavior.
comunication issues.
Socialization problems.
obsesive compulsive problems.

My mother started a support group in my area for this, by the way,
look it up, it's real.

But a question, how is a club run?

Um, why the hell would anyone think Autism wasn't real??? But you're wrong: Autism isn't a brain disorder at all. It's just a different type of brain that doesn't fit into modern society like other conformist brains. Asperger's is usually considered a form of autism, except with the reverse of socialization problems. Although, technically, they still have PROBLEMS, it's just that they sometimes drive people away with their excessive talking and trying to be friends. =)

Other symptoms may include:
Excessive smartness/intelligence
Different ways of looking for solutions to problems
Protectiveness and caring instincts
The ability to make insane discoveries no one else could-- Bill Gates has Asperger's, to name one famous person on the spectrum.
Refusal to comply with wrong or unethical things, i.e. the slave trade.

There are different degrees of Autism and Asperger's, called the Spectrum. Some people are very severe and can't really ever work or have relationships, but they're fairly rare. Chances are someone you know has Autism or Asperger's (actually, probably a TON of people here have it... Aspies tend to get very into things like Pokemon and Star Wars)

Autism and Asperger's runs in my family. My middle brother (of 5 siblings) has PDDNOS/Autism (whichever one would give him more treatment under insurance, basically autism though). My dad and aunt have Asperger's, and my grandmother seems to have some autism a bit less severe than my brother's. The main issue with autism isn't that they don't communicate, it's that they do it in such a way that our finite minds can't understand. They can sometimes be very perceptive to others (but sometimes not) and be very, very sensitive... therefore they expect you to be able to tell what they're thinking by the way they touch you. This isn't a hard and fast "rule", but it seems to be very common. Sometimes children will throw temper tantrums or beat people up because they're so frustrated that the person doesn't "get" what they're trying to say. I would be rich if I had a penny for every time my mom told my brother to "use words! I'm not a mind reader!"

Also, they're often very sensitive to tactile, visual, or auditory stimulus. I get really dizzy around a lot of sounds and hate certain tastes and fabrics, which (along with the obsessiveness) are thankfully the only problems I struggle with as far as the Spectrum is concerned. My brother's feet are always hot, just as an example.

Wow. All the things I didn't know about myself.

It obviously wasn't intended for you. =P Unless you're not being sarcastic, of course.

I'd like to join. Since not many people understand autism, I'd like to let people know about what it really is. :)

GSC Junkie, I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not. i.e. whether stuff I was saying was really news to you or if you were being a smart alec. If it was the latter I was going to point out that the information was for people who didn't know what autism was, not for you.

I don't think Autism is one of those things lie about, so no worries, I believe you. =)

okay, I couldn't tell, hence the last part of that post. ^_^ Glad I was informative.

I'm joining. I have Asperger's and have struggled with it for a long time.....OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) too.

Why don't we just make this the brain issues club? I have OCD tendencies, generalized AND social anxiety disorders, recurring Type II Depressive Disorder, Dissociative Identity Disorder, Panic Disorder, eating disorder, and probably some random personality disorder thrown in there. And yes, I'm only slightly borderline.

Why don't you ask GSC junkie to change it?

I just did.... or rather, I suggested it... no obligation to change it, I can always start my own club or something

So, I heard some where awhile ago that it's common for people with Autisim/aspergers
like things like pokemon, but it sounds fishy to me. Any opinions?

Odds of being diagnosed:1 in 150

And wow, Nando, you have Aspergers? Just wow.
Hey! We both have Aspergers/autisim and we both really like Anabel!

I wonder if there's some scinece behind that...

Edit: Sorry, i'm new, so how do you change the tiltle?

Interesting. :)

Hey GSC junkie, can you change the title of the club to the the Brain Issues Club, like Aurora suggested?

I'll help you, if you want.

People with Autistic/Asperger's traits tend to get really absorbed in whatever they're doing or interested in. My brother is absolutely obsessed with Naruto and video games, however, he only talks about them if he... talks. =P My friends with Asperger's can talk your ear off about something they're interested in. =)

I'm not really sure what the attraction is to things like Pokemon and Starwars or Star Trek, but there's definitely something entrancing about it. My theory is that because the brain structure and neural pathways are a bit different than other peoples', there's something soothing and addictive about fandoms. At least, that's how my obsession seems to work for me.

Also, a bit of my obsessiveness may come from my dissociative order, which seems very strongly linked to my imagination. I become obsessed with certain people so I can become them, truthfully. Then I become obsessed with their world because that person is now living inside my head and I want to make them the best home possible.

How do you change the title?
(I'm sorry ~Aurora~ I want to change it)

you *should* be able to go into your first post and change the title, but I'm not really sure. If clicking "edit" on the original post and trying to edit it that way doesn't work, report the post and ask for it to be edited (since you don't have PM's enabled).

Here.

1. Go to the first page.
2. On your first post, right-click on Edit
3. Click on Open in New Window/Tab
4. There's a title edit thingy, and in that box, type: "The Brain Issues Club".

Hope I helped. :)

Are you sure I wont get repremanded for reporting it?
