KNOCKOUT STAGE
Autumn OU Knockout stage - Challonge

BadAssGardevoir - Alexey
JustTheFx - -Glory Blaze-

I figured that this place had no tournaments for quite a while now, so why the heck not

The tournament will start as soon as there are 16 participants and consists of two stages:

1) Group stage. Players will be randomly assigned into 4 groups of 4. Each participant will play once against every opponent in their respective group. Group standings are determined by a total number of points the players have (win = 3 points, loss = 0 points, if the players somehow manage to tie, they will be awarded 1 point each, but game mechanics prevent ties afaik). In case two players have the same number of points, the player who won the head-to-head match between the players has a higher position.
2) Final (knockout) stage. The winner of each group progresses to the semi-finals, which is single elimination. The winners of the semi-finals progress to the final, while the losers of the semi-finals play a match for the third place.

This is a Standard OU tournament, therefore all bans and clauses effective in Smogon OU tier are in effect for this tournament.

The rules for OU are:
All Pokemon above OU are banned.

Endless Battle Clause: Any moveset on any Pokémon that is capable of intentionally causing an endless battle is banned from competitive play. Thus:
A Pokémon may not carry Recycle and hold a Leppa Berry in conjunction with Heal Pulse and Milk Drink, Moonlight, Morning Sun, Recover, Roost, Slack Off, Soft-Boiled, or Wish.
A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry and carry Recycle and Pain Split on its moveset.
A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry and carry Recycle and Fling on its moveset.
Evasion Clause: The moves Double Team and Minimize are not permitted in play.
Moody Clause: Pokémon with the ability Moody are not permitted.
OHKO Clause: A Pokemon may not have the moves Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, or Sheer Cold in its moveset.
Sleep Clause: Only one Pokémon may be put to sleep on the opposing team at a time, if not induced by a move such as Rest.
Species Clause: Players cannot have two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number on the same team.

Banned moves: Swagger

Banned Items:
Kangaskhanite
Gengarite
Lucarionite
Mawilite

If a participant is found to violate these rules he or she is disqualified from the tournament, the results of all the matches of the participant are nullified, and the player is either awarded three losses (Group stage) or is kicked out of the knockout stage with their opponent being awarded the win.

The battles can be held either on cartridge or on Pokemon Showdown. Showdown is considered the default platform due to having a semi-reliable system for preventing disconnections and not letting through most illegal sets (it also has genies and Kyurem and Mew and Heatrans and you can have more than one Eviolte without cloning/playing through games multiple times etc). This means that, should the players fail to agree on whether the match is to be held on cartridge or on Showdown, the match is to be held on Showdown.

Players are not restricted to using the same team throughout the tournament.

After the match both players are required to submit a replay of the match to this thread.

The prizes (because that's what Pokemon tournaments are for, right :D) are:

1st place: Heracross, Jolly nature, Moxie, 31/31/31/x/31/31, Egg Move Rock Blast
2nd place: Starly, Jolly nature, Reckless, 31/31/31/x/31/31, Egg Move Double-Edge
3rd place: Porygon, Modest nature, Trace, 31/x/31/31/31/31
There will also be a prize for participation which all participants will get, but I have not yet decided what it will be.

So, sign up!

I might as well try, I'll give it a go!

Though the matches might take a lot longer to get done considering school+timezones.

re: Autumn OU Tournament (Group Stage)

Only gonna do battles on Showdown so I'm in. Are the groups gonna be based on skill level? Also I call AFC East and my team's name is the Patriots.

re: Autumn OU Tournament (Group Stage)

I'll sign up because I like a challenge even though the only 'mon I'm really intent on is that Heracross. Also, I have a question regarding rules:

In case two players have the same number of points, the player who won the head-to-head match between the players has a higher position.

...What precisely does this mean? Does it mean that, say, if person A and person B both won two matches, but person A won the third match he/she played while person B didn't then is person A higher in the rankings? Or will they have to fight it out to determine their posiotion?

Signed you all in
@TerraTF; no, the groups will be random. If I were to use the skill level as a criterion, I would use it to ensure that higher leveled players are top seeds, and lower level players are lower seeds, so the latter would have a chance to play against the former. I have, however, absolutely no way of objectively determining anyone's skill level, so no, it will be up to the RNG
@BadAssGardevoir; It's a tie-breaker. It means that if Player A and Player B have 2 wins each, the one who won the match between Player A and Player B advances

OK, thanks for clearing that up, it's just kinda vauge to say "the player who won the head-to-head match between the players has a higher position." ...Either that or it was a masive derp moment. :)

See you there, Terra, see you there...

No, it begins as soon as 16 participants sign up
If I were to set deadlines, it would be a waste of breath :D

Then again don't want to be waiting forever for 16 people to sign up. If 12 people sign up we can do 3 per group. If 8 sign up we can do 2 groups, top 2 move on. 9? 3 each group then Robin Round the second place players to see who gets the fourth spot.

re: Autumn OU Tournament (Group Stage)

Obviously, there are ways to make a tournament with any number of people higher than 2. I will not be waiting forever if people do not sign in, and I will change the tournament formula to accomodate the smaller number of participants if need be. I just don't want to set any stirct deadlines
