Marvel Animation, the cartoon division of Marvel Entertainment, is beginning production on "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes," the company's latest animated series.

The Hollywood Reporter says Film Roman, the company behind "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill," has been hired to produce the 26-episode series, which will be available for broadcast in 2011, in time for Marvel Studios' releases of the tentpole live-action movies The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers.

Producing the series is Ciro Nieli, whose credits include "Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go!" and "Teen Titans." The series' story editor is Christopher Yost, who has worked on the Marvel cartoons "Iron Man Armored Adventures" and "Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes."

A lot of this intrigues me. And I'm VERY happy to be getting a new Avengers cartoon. Can't wait for more information. Tone, voice actors, characters.

EDIT: Alright...found some more info.

THE AVENGERS: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is an all-new property featuring some of Marvel’s all-time favorite characters including Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Giant Man and Wasp. When the planet is threatened by Super Villains, time traveling conquerors, alien invaders, mythical monsters and mad robots bent on the total destruction of humanity, when forces of evil are so overwhelming that no single hero has the power to save the world, when there is no hope left...the Avengers assemble!

The team. Looks...weird. Hopefully this will be more like Wolverine and the X-Men and less like that last Fantastic Four series.

Everyone looks fine, except that Iron Man looks like he escaped from Transformers Animated and Hank's costume looks moronic. I'm really surprised they didn't try to shoe-horn in some minority characters on the team, though.

I LOVED the last Fantastic Four series, because I think the franchise works a ton better as a superhero sitcom than a straight superhero story.

Really? Aside from the knobs on the end of his antennae being enlarged and his mouthplate being all circuit-y, he looks like he originally did.

Eh, it's going to be drawing in from the movie, so we'll probably see Nick Fury around. Though I hope we DO see other members. Maybe a crossover with the Black Panther cartoon (I know, won't happen, but I can dream, can't I?). Hawkeye's GOTTA appear.

But it was so...droll. Too much forced humor, weird character designs, weird character personalities (they ALL seemed so grossly exaggerated from how they're presented in the comics, or in the last animated series), and I never really felt like they established ANYTHING. They just...threw them out there and said "go". If Spider-Man's origin needs to be retold in EVERY SINGLE reimagining of the character, then the Fantastic Four need it as well.

Soooo many new Marvel cartoons. I feel like I'm lost at sea and I'm surrounded at all sides by the things. @.@ If it weren't for the crapiness of the Ultimate Avengers movie, the 00's Fantastic Four cartoon, and the probably suckiness of that teen Iron Man show (or whatever) I would be excited but as it stands... eh. At least Spectacular Spider-Man and Wolverine and the X-Men are doing good (although the latter's soundtrack sucks).

As for this, the first thing I thought was "Classic Avengers again?" But then I realized that the only time we've seen a show based on Classic Avengers was that one from the late nineties... which I never saw (Didn't it not feature the "main" Avengers, though?). So I'll probably keep my hopes up, although the characer designed look simply horrible.

Also: Marvel. Putting all your new cartoons on that one Nickelodeon channel which I don't have is really annoying. :/ So glad Spectacular's on Kids' WB!/CW4Kids.

The one from the 90s was Ant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye, Falcon, Tigra, Wonder Man (who died or was put into a coma in the first episode and was replaced by...), Vision, and Scarlet Witch. And I believe a few other Avengers made appearances. I seem to distinctly remember Thor.

Yeah...it really irks me to miss out on these shows.

Interesting. Let's hope it fairs better than the 2009 Iron Man toon coming soon on Nick. There's a preview on the Iron Man disc I got. Grn, you aren't missing much. *sigh*

I'm more concerned about missing Wolverine and the X-Men.
